My pug is shaking all day, on and off. Why can't I get her to stop?

Hi and thanks for posting on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Although Mya is still eating, drinking, and having normal bathroom habits, the shaking and lethargy is a concern. Shaking can sometimes be an indication of pain or discomfort in dogs or can be a symptom of certain endocrine diseases. I would recommend having her seen by a veterinarian as soon as possible. In this case, it is very hard to say for certain what is going on with Mya without examining her first. A veterinary exam would be a good place to start so she can be evaluated head to tail. Your veterinarian may recommend blood work and/or x-rays be run on Mya as well to help determine a diagnosis. I hope this helps and thanks again for posting!

Hello. If this has been ongoing for several hours & she has vomited multiple times, then I would consider having Kreacher seen by your veterinarian tonight or as soon as possible tomorrow. The biggest concern is dehydration, so you can try to give her a couple of teaspoons of water or broth every hour or so. If she feels like drinking, but vomits afterwards, replace her water with ice cubes to lick on. Absolutely no food until tomorrow. It's very hard to say what could be going on with her from that information. Shivering can be caused by low body temperature, pain (for example neck pain), it can actually be tremors, and somewhere's we don't figure out what's going on at all. Because it's been going on all night, I would recommend taking her to the vet this morning. Hope you get to the bottom of things today and Zoey is feeling better soon!

She is probably shivering because her body is trying to adjust after losing so much food and fluid when she vomited. Try to keep her calm and comfortable for now. You may want to see if she needs to get up and walk outside. If her abnormal behavior continues for more than a few hours you should consider taking her to be examined by the vet. I hope this helps. These can be symptoms of many serious medical issues, anxiety, fear, pain, neurologic disease, infection, etc. I would recommend that you have him checked out by a vet to see what could be going on. After a thorough physical exam and discussion of his recent history, the vet may recommend diagnostics, such as blood work, x-rays, ultrasound, etc. to diagnose the cause.

Hello! I'm sorry to hear that Eleanor might not be feeling well. There are several things that I think of when I hear about dogs that are trembling or shaking. First, dogs that tremble and shake may be experiencing pain. Conditions like luxating patellas (kneecaps that pop out of place) and back injuries come to mind with smaller dogs like Bichons and Shih-tzus. You may not have seen the initial injury, but if they "tweak" an old or chronic injury, it can make them shake, pant, and want to be clingy, as they don't understand why they are hurting. Next, behavior changes in middle-aged dogs could be caused by metabolic disorders, like hypothyroidism or Cushing's disease. I would also expect to see other symptoms with these disorders, like weight changes and a poor hair coat, so if you see any other physical changes, this could account for Eleanor's shaking. Lastly, stress can also cause shaking and trembling behavior (like from storms or major construction going on in the neighborhood). I definitely recommend having Eleanor evaluated by a veterinarian for pain and/or other disorders before chalking her trembling up to a behavioral issue, as many conditions like pain and hypothyroidism can be managed with treatment, and she'll be much happier for it.
