Why is my pit bull shaking after taking aspirin for a limp?

First of all, NEVER give a dog any human medications unless directed by a veterinarian. Aspirin is extremely irritation to the stomach and will cause gastric bleeding very easily in dogs. If the weather has gotten very cold where you are, this could be affecting his attitude. The change in food may have put him a little off balance even though he's not showing any apparent symptoms. I recommend getting him in to see your vet, just to make sure there isn't something underlying that is causing him to be lethargic and subdued. If it's enough of a change to concern you, it's worth getting your vet to check just to be on the safe side.

Aspirin can cause bleeding in dogs, and I would recommend stopping it immediately and having Zaylynne examined by a vet. Her chronic sneezing may be caused by abnormalities or a polyp in the nose or upper throat area. The vet may need to sedate her or refer her to a specialist to see what is going on to cause the sneezing and now bleeding. The leg may or may not be related, but an exam and x-rays would be the first part at working up the limping.

Shaking can sometimes be an indication of pain or discomfort in dogs or can be a symptom of certain endocrine diseases. I would recommend having her seen by a veterinarian as soon as possible. In this case, it is very hard to say for certain what is going on with Mya without examining her first. A veterinary exam would be a good place to start so she can be evaluated head to tail. Your veterinarian may recommend blood work and/or x-rays be run on Mya as well to help determine a diagnosis. I hope this helps and thanks again for posting!

Poor Wednesday! Unfortunately, I am unable to prescribe any medication without examining Wednesday myself. I do not recommend giving her aspirin, as it may have some unwanted side effects in dogs such as damage to the kidneys, gastric ulcers, and bleeding issues when given in high doses. She should definitely be seen by a vet as soon as possible, especially because she is limping. Your vet can take x-rays to see where the trauma is, and perform blood work to make sure that Wednesday's organs are functioning properly to handle any pain medication, as well as place a cast or splint if necessary. You should try to keep her as calm and quiet, with as little activity as possible until she is examined by a vet. Good luck and I hope Wednesday feels better soon!

Sorry to hear that Jack isn't acting like himself. Baby aspirin over the course of few days, while not the most preferably of pain relievers in dogs, is not likely to cause significant ailments. Inappetence and vomiting however are some of the side effects caused by the drug, however, and might be to blame in this instance. They can cause gastric ulceration, though this usually occurs in larger quantities or with overdose. If he hasn't been drinking his water for just tonight, I wouldn't begin to panic just yet. If he continues not to drink for another 12 hours and/or vomits with greater strength or frequency, get him into a veterinarian for a diagnostic work up and/or treatment plan to get him feeling better. Be sure you tell your vet the exact point of time he last received an aspirin so that he knows if it is safe to prescribe other types of anti-inflammatory drugs without the risk of cross-reactivity. If Jack struggles with arthritis, he may benefit from having an anti-inflammatory available to him on days when he struggles the most - this would be a discussion for you and your vet to have. I would also encourage you to consider starting him on a supplement that contains fatty acids and glucosamine chondroitin. Hope this makes sense.

Please do not give Oreo baby aspirin, it's not safe for puppies or dogs. It causes GI ulcers and bleeding. The only safe pain mediations for dogs are available from the vet. I would call the vet first thing in the morning to get an appointment for him to be seen. He's limping because he's in pain, and since he is so young, it's very important he's seen by a vet as soon as possible to make sure he doesn't have an injury such as a broken bone that negatively affects his growth. The only way to know for sure he hasn't broken anything is with an x-ray. Please take him into the vet tomorrow.

Aw, poor George! I agree that it sounds pretty likely that he has limp (or limber) tail, particularly based on how he's holding his tail in the pictures. The good news is that this problem resolves on its own with a bit of rest over a week or two. Some dogs are uncomfortable with this issue and benefit from prescription non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications from their veterinarian, but many are ok without these pain relievers. Since George is whining and seems uncomfortable, it would be best to take him to his vet to inquire about these pain medications. Do not give him aspirin. Aspirin can cause both bleeding issues, as well as an increased risk of stomach ulceration. There aren't any safe over the counter pain medications for dogs. Be sure to continue keeping George rested for the next week or two until his tail is back to normal!
