My dog shakes head excessively after spay. What could it be?

This sounds like she is getting an ear infection, or has something stuck in her ear or mouth. It also could be from insect or ant bites on her face. It doesn't seem related to the surgery from her symptoms. Check her over carefully. Look at her face, the fur, check inside her mouth and in her ears to see if you can fine a cause for the face rubbing and head shaking. If her ears are hot, red and painful, or they have some discharge in them then she should have them checked and treated by your veterinarian. Please try to stop the rubbing as she can get skin sores or a hot spot if she rubs too hard. Use a cone on her if needed to stop the scratching. If this worsens and you can't find the reason please bring Emmy back for a recheck. They can give medication if needed to stop the rubbing and they should be able to diagnose the problem and treat it also. Poor Lola! Her incision looks great. Could she be tremoring from the anxiety of wearing the cone? You could take it off of her and watch her closely to see if it improves. If so, you could consider putting an inflatable collar on her that will still prevent her from licking but causes a little less anxiety. Some other causes of head tremors could be pain, ear problems, muscle spasms, next pain, or even electrolyte abnormalities. If changing her e-collar doesn't help, I would have your vet take a look at her. I would try to get the episode on video as it may help your vet with diagnosis. I hope this helps!

This sounds like a neurological problem. It can be from and injury, epilepsy or an infection. You can put a video on YouTube and resend this question with the link. Also more of a description. Oh my. Poor guy. This sounds like muscle tremors and is a sign of a severe neurological abnormality that can be caused by a toxin ingestion, underlying brain/spinal cord tumor, or even an underlying metabolic imbalance (not as common). I would highly recommend taking KyCzar in to your vet to have him evaluated. Baseline bloodwork will likely be recommended and perhaps even a referral to a neurologist, if you wish to pursue further treatment and work-up. Unfortuantely there is not a good way to share videos using the free posting to the forum service. You will likely need to open up a private chat with an expert in order to share a video of your pet. Unfortunately, that's hard to say what the cause is without being able to conduct a neurological exam. It could be indicative a permanent nerve damage, pain in the neck or a congenital condition. I recommend to record the behavior on video and then ask the neurologist to view the video. The neurologist is the best person to accurately answer your questions about Dodger. Head shaking doesn't indicate anything on its own. It could be that there is something irritating Orvia's ear or nose, itchy skin, a bug bite causing a reaction, neurologic or muscular issues, or more. If you are seeing other signs and symptoms in addition to the head shaking (loss of balance, nausea, confusion, etc), discharge from the ears or nose, or the head shaking doesn't resolve, having a vet take a look in person is best.
