My dog has a sensitive stomach. Can she chew bones on her diet?

I find that dogs really like them and they are fairly inexpensive. They also seem to help with cleaning the teeth a bit. Have a good day!

If Scooby has been lethargic and not eating, especially after eating 3 chew bones, I would recommend having a veterinarian examine him so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. I would recommend having abdominal x-rays taken to see if he has developed a foreign object intestinal obstruction from the bone chews. He may also be dehydrated, have pancreatitis, etc. It is impossible for me to say for sure without examining him and performing diagnostics. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction. They easily splinter and can easily cause a foreign body obstruction or irritation in her stomach or intestines. It’s best to stick with pet friendly bones and raw hides from your local pet store, because they don’t have the tendacy to splinter off and potentially cause harm to your pet. Your dog still may vomit the bone or some of the bone fragments and she will probably have an upset stomach for a day or so. She will probably also develop diarrhea or soft stools because of ingesting the bones. Keep a close eye on her and if the vomiting lasts more than 24 hours or she starts having bloody stools, you will need to take her to the veterinarian. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Eli! The fresh bone may be causing an upset tummy or even a blockage if a large piece was broken off. Also raw meat and bone can contain bacteria that can cause vomiting or diarrhea (like food poisoning). I would resume feeding the mutton and bone as previous, cooked. In the mean time stop the fresh mutton and feed her a bland diet of rice with boiled chicken or hamburger as small frequent meal for 3-5 days. Then resume her old diet. If she refuses to eat or continues to vomit then she should be seen by your Vet. Have a great day!

Since so many things can cause digestive upset, I would advise that you have Bambi evaluated by your veterinarian. They can perform a physical exam, look at a fecal sample for signs of intestinal worms, advise blood tests, or even more specialized tests to assess the intestinal tract. Imaging studies such as X-Ray, Ultrasounds, or even an endoscopic exam with a special instrument to look inside of the stomach and intestinal tract. Possible causes include dietary indiscretion (eating things she shouldn't), intestinal worms, food allergy, pancreatitis, other internal organ problems, inflammatory bowel disease, etc. Once the problem is determined, your veterinarian can recommend the appropriate food. They may even suggest a bland diet for a while to see if the problem improves. I hope you can take Bambi soon so that both of you start feeling better.

If Sadie has gastrointestinal signs, like vomiting, nausea, loose stools, gurgling abdomen, abdominal distension or abdominal pain, you should change her diet to a different one. There are good quality diets for dogs with sensitive stomach and skin problems on the market (for example Purina, Eukanuba, Royal Canin). It is better the change the diet slowly, as abrupt change is likely to produce more serious gastrointestinal problems. Please, mix Sadie's current food with a new diet for a few days slowly increasing the amount of new food and decreasing her old diet. After 4-5 days of doing this it should be safe to stop her Hill's food completely.
