Dog vomited after eating fresh bone. Is raw bone safe for dogs?

Your dog still may vomit the bone or some of the bone fragments and she will probably have an upset stomach for a day or so. She will probably also develop diarrhea or soft stools because of ingesting the bones. Keep a close eye on her and if the vomiting lasts more than 24 hours or she starts having bloody stools, you will need to take her to the veterinarian. Hello. Raw foods are not always the safest diets to feed because of bacterial contamination, but if Boris is otherwise feeling well, then I would not panic. Normally, I recommend keeping a vomiting dog that acts well & drinking & holding down water, off food for 12-24 hours, & restart with a bland diet of 25% boiled chicken, 75% cooked white rice or a little low fat cottage cheese. But for now, just keep him off his regular food & give him just a very small amount in 12 hours. If he continues to vomit during this fasting period, or he becomes lethargic or develops diarrhea, then it is time to see the veterinarian. I hope he is feeling better soon. It could be due to dietary indiscretion or even more concerning due to a gastrointestinal obstruction. The fact that Bailey ate dinner and did not vomit makes me think that it is less likely for this to be an obstruction though if the vomiting resumes or he stops eating, he should be evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. It sounds as Ella is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking her to the vet the first chance you get, she will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection she will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better. if the vet thinks it is more serious she will need a blood test and possibly an ultrasound in order to find out what is wrong.

Hello and thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. You should monitor your dog at home for signs of vomiting, diarrhea, muscle tremors, abdominal pain, lethargy. If you notice any of these symptoms you should take your dog to your local vets as an emergency. Typically, the symptoms of food intoxication commence within 2-6 hrs after ingestion. Inducing vomiting in dogs that ate bones is never recommended as it pose a risk of esophageal tear from the sharp bones. Salmonellosis is a potential risk after eating decomposing food, however, Salmonella infection is not common in dogs in general. Typically, the symptoms include vomiting, diarrhea and fever.

Shooter has probably developed gastritis from eating the bone. I would recommend withholding food (water is ok as long as he’s not vomiting it all up) for 12-24 hours. After that you can try feeding him something that will be easily digestible and easy on his GI tract like plain boiled chicken and rice. If the vomiting continues for more than 24 hours and/or if he starts having diarrhea then I would take him in to the vet to be examined. I hope this helps.
