Can I safely use a second flea treatment with Sentinel for my dog?

Hi and thanks for your post! Yes this is okay. Sentinel does not kill adult fleas, just the eggs. Sentinel also does not prevent ticks as you mentioned in your question. Advantix does, however. I hope this helps!

Over the counter flea products that are fine to use with sentinel include frontline plus, advantage and Advantix. Just be sure to not bathe your dog a couple days before or after applying any of those products as that can affect how effective they are.

Hello, sentinel has an IGR which essentially prevents immature fleas from becoming adult fleas. It does not kill adult fleas. You can still use an adulticide such as advantix spot on to kill the adult fleas. Hope this helps and best of luck.

It is certainly not too much to use a Seresto collar with Sentinel! In my experience, Sentinel alone is not sufficient for proper flea control, but is great for heartworm and intestinal parasite prevention. The Seresto collar will prevent ticks and fleas, which is quite important. To answer your question, yes, use both! :-)

Hi and thank you for your question on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Generally speaking, it is advised to administer one type of topical flea/tick preventative at one time. Administering more than one topical type in a 30 day period may be an overload to her system. The Fipronil is liking absorbed already, so I would not advise you apply the Vectra. Instead, you may ask your veterinarian about a administering capstar or another fast acting oral flea treatment medication. Next month, you may apply the Vectra. Hopefully that will do the trick.

Hello. I would stop the Cap Shield Plus because it contains lufernon & so does the Sentinel. Lufernon is useful for flea control, but does not kill adult fleas. You can use a similar product just called Capstar, & this can be used daily, if necessary to kill adult fleas. Or, you can administer it as needed if you see fleas. It is safe to give with the Sentinel. You can also use something else to kill your adult fleas & get ticks, such as Frontline Gold, Advantix or even a Seresto Collar to compliment the Sentinel. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Switching to Trifexis is fine. Just be aware that Trifexis doesn't get ticks (neither does Sentinel, it is just heartworm, GI parasites and sterilized female fleas). I hope this helps!
