Sentinel for fleas: Can I use Cap Shield Plus for adult fleas?

You're correct that Sentinel is considered a "passive" flea control product - it doesn't kill adult fleas, just keeps their eggs from being able to hatch. Capstar would be quite effective at killing any fleas that he currently has on him. It shouldn't be necessary to wash bedding, etc. since the Sentinel will ensure that the fleas are not able to reproduce. In my experience, some dogs do fine with Sentinel as their only flea control method if they are in an environment where they are rarely exposed to fleas. But if you're seeing fleas from time to time, or if your dog has flea allergies or other skin sensitivities, then I would recommend using an adulticide like Nexgard or Bravecto along with his Sentinel.

Hello, sentinel has an IGR which essentially prevents immature fleas from becoming adult fleas. It does not kill adult fleas. You can still use an adulticide such as advantix spot on to kill the adult fleas. Hope this helps and best of luck.

Yes, you can certainly give Luna a dose of Capstar after applying Pet Armour Plus. The Capstar should kill adult fleas quickly, but will not provide lasting prevention against maturing larvae and eggs. Pet Armour should be able to provide this prevention for the remainder of the month. However, when Luna is due for another dose of flea prevention next month, I would instead recommend using a higher quality product, such as Nexgard, Bravecto, or K9 Advantix II, as I tend to find these products more effective. This could be a novel protein diet if Trixie has never had tuna or pumpkin before, but most cats have had tuna in food at some point in their lives. Natural Balance also does not have a boarded nutritionist on staff and I believe Royal Canin has more quality control measures in place to ensure there is no contamination. Ultimately it comes down to what works best for Trixie - check in with your vet, but I’d guess that it’s fine to try this food and see if she has a flare up of her symptoms.

Yes you can give Lucy Capstar! Keep in mind that fleas live in the environment, not on the animal, so you need to disinfect that as well. Wash her bedding in hot soapy water, and vacuum the furniture and carpet surfaces. You can use a spray to kill fleas in the house, such as Indorex, or a flea bomb would work well to kill the fleas in the home. Best of luck, I hope this helps!

Capstar can safely be used with Frontline. That said, switching to a different topical (they can become ineffective after a while of use) or addressing the house, bedding, etc for places flea eggs can sit may help reduce reinfestation in the future.
