Why is my dog scratching and has a muzzle bump with dry patches?

I would be suspicious this may be s fungal infection, especially when it appears to be spreading. I recommend you get his checked and an appropriate treatment prescribed as soon as possible; be aware that some infections such as ringworm can be picked up by people also so handle with care until this can be ruled out

Hello. This looks pretty typical for an allergic dermatitis that has lead to a skin infection. Ideally, this should be addressed by your veterinarian. They can discuss possible causes (food allergy, contact allergy, flea allergy, etc) and prescribe medications which may include antibiotics for the raised lesions and allergy therapies.

The first thing to do is to check for any fleas. Some can be allergic and make scratching worse. They sell Advantage and Frontline over the counter to help control fleas if needed. The odor may be from a secondary infection from all the scratching. They will likely need to go to the vet to determine if there is an infection or a separate allergy (environmental or food) causing this. All you can do at home is a regular bath once a week to help their skin and apply antibiotic ointment (neopsorin) to the areas that seem worse and have scabs. They make omega 3 fatty acid supplements for dogs that help their coat and with dry skin that might be beneficial to add.

It is hard to tell from the picture but it maybe the start of a pustule which can be a sign of a skin infection. It may also be a cyst or sebaceous adenoma or wart as they have a similar looking characteristic. Since she has been through Cytopoint and Apoquel with out much relief, she may benefit from a dermatologist to get intradermal allergy testing. Your vet can check that spot to be sure what it is and set up a referral for the skin if you wish to pursue that route

I don't like the look of this. With it so round and well demarcated I would guess it's from a spider or insect bite. You can clean this with a warm cloth and a mild shampoo or soap. Rinse it well and when it's dry apply a thin film of antibacterial ointment on it. I would have this examined in the next few days as it could be a fungal infection from rooting in the ground also. If there is any question as to the cause your veterinarian can do a skin scraping of it and get a diagnosis after looking at the cells under the microscope. From the picture it actually looks more like a deep skin infection to me. This could be bacterial or fungal, or even a hypersensitivity reaction (less likely). I would recommend that she be examined by your veterinarian soon. They may look at a sample under the microscope to help determine what therapies might be most helpful.
