What's this red, scabby, pus-filled bump on my dog's nose or lip?

Pet's info: Dog | Canary Mastiff | Female | spayed | 2 years and 9 months old | 100 lbs

Looks like a burn mark on my dogs nose and lip . It scabbed up pretty bad and not today when we got home from all day traveling notice red bump where she keeps licking it. She was on a job site thursday and i thought she put nose in spray foam or adhesive it was crusty and i scraped off . Now kind of pusy . Not sure what to do

From the picture it actually looks more like a deep skin infection to me. This could be bacterial or fungal, or even a hypersensitivity reaction (less likely). I would recommend that she be examined by your veterinarian soon. They may look at a sample under the microscope to help determine what therapies might be most helpful. Hi and thank you for your question on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach!

From the pictures it appears like a scab or a cyst that ruptured (more common in older dogs than younger dogs). You can clean it daily with 3% hydrogen peroxide and if it does not appear to be healing up in a few days you may need to take her into her veterinarian to take a closer look.

Poor girl! It looks like a little local infection or a cyst that she has rubbed all the hair off of. Since you feel like there is a second one now developing, I would have your vet take a look at it before more come up. Your vet can aspirate that bump if needed to make sure it isn't cancerous. They will also be able to prescribe some antibiotics if needed. I hope this helps!

Some causes of this are bacterial and fungal infections, autoimmune disease, severe allergies, mites and even cancer. Please take Grizzlu to see a veterinarian as soon as you can. Whatever caused this it looks like it is now infected and she likely need antibiotics, topical treatment and possible other oral medications like corticosteroids.

My dog's nose has a pus-filled pimple. Should I touch it or see a vet?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This could be a benign or malignant growth. This could even be the site of an infection. There is no way of knowing what it is just based on its appearance. This is often differentiated by a test called a fine needle aspirate (FNA) which is a pain free, inexpensive and easy procedure which in most cases will help reach a diagnosis. Sometimes a biopsy is needed for a definitive diagnosis. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. I am really hoping for something benign. What causes a small dry scabby bump on my dog's snout?

Hi, and thanks for your question. This kind of lump/growth needs to be ideally assessed by your veterinarian to have a definitive and specific answer. Usually there are two ways your vet can do that a part from examining it directly during physical examination. A biopsy can be taken under local or general anesthetic, otherwise a smaller sample through a fine needle can be aspirated (this technique is called FNA= fine needle aspiration). Differentials include skin cysts, infections, benign or more sinister type of tumors. I recommend that you have Arlo evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. If an abscess was noted, further local therapy with drainage and antibiotics would be recommended. Why does my dog have a sudden hard bump on her snout and red sores?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! A lot of skin bumps and lumps can look the same. She could have hit her nose on something and the bump is related to trauma and will go away, it could be a benign growth (like a histiocytoma), it could be part of a skin infection or immune reaction, hives or a cancerous growth. If the bump doesn't resolve in a few days I recommend having your Vet look at it. The sores around her mouth can also be due to infection or an immune condition and may or may not be related to the new bump on her nose. I hope this helps and I wish Luna a speedy recovery!
