Dog's paw pad scraped, hanging. Vet needed? Can he still walk?

The spot at the top of the picture appears to be a cut or abrasion. The protruding pieces are likely pieces of pad that have not fallen off on their own. I would recommend soaking this in a betadine / saline mixture (mixed to give a light brown solution). I would soak this for 5-10 minutes twice daily until healed. I would also apply Sentry Wound ointment, which you can find at PetCo and apply twice daily. If this does not improve or it worsens, please have Bane examined by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. As long as there is no actual deep cut (which I cannot appreciate in the picture), you may be able to treat him at home. To speed up the healing process, you may proceed with diluted epsom salt soaks every 8 hours for 3 days. If not improving or worsening, have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Make sure to dry up his pads well after soaks. Good luck and have a great day!

Nugget may have blistered his feet from running outside or from chewing his feet from allergies. You have a couple of options. The first would be to take him to the veterinarian to be examined and to have the paw pad that is falling off trimmed away from the foot so it does not catch on anything in the environment. The second option would be to soak his feet in epsom salt soaks twice daily 10 minutes at a time and wait for the pad tissue to fall off on its own. I would also have him wear protective booties and applying a wound cream such as Sentry Wound ointment (can be found at Petco) while the feet are healing. This wound appears to be superficial so your initial decontamination with the warm water and soaking it in epsom salt should be enough. I would recommend keeping a close eye on this and making sure the foot does not become swollen and that there is no pus coming from the wound. You can soak the foot in epsom salt solution twice daily until this is healed. If Duke is going to be going outside in the dirt I would recommend putting a booty over his foot or a sock to prevent dirt from getting inside the wound. If there are any changes that indicate infection, I would recommend having a veterinarian examine Duke so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. I'm so sorry to hear that Reaves and Marilyn are having such a hard time after their hike. Paw pads can take a while to heal and can be very painful. I would recommend having your veterinarian examine them to determine if they need any treatment other than what you are currently doing, to determine which pain medication will help them feel better, and also to determine the best way to protect their feet. Sometimes I will recommend commercial booties while paw pads heal, but sometimes I will teach owners to bandage feet at home if they are severely affected. Good luck! I hope they feel better soon. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I'm sorry about Chaparra's paws! It is a common injury in the summer. Soaking the feet in Epsom salts twice daily and bandaging with neosporin should work. If you can't keep bandages on then just keep him on soft surfaces, like the grass. If he is painful then take him to your Vet monday for pain medications. I hope this helps!

That has really peeled back, and likely will need to be removed. I would not try to remove it yourself, it could hurt him and he may bite in pain. I'd take him into a vet now to get this part of his pad removed, to get pain medication, and to get antibiotics. I hope this helps!
