Why does my dog have scabs and bald spots on his back after grooming?

Poor guy. It does look like these are scabs due to possible trauma to the skin. If the groomer didn't notice these during the groom, we have to assume they were caused at the groomer. I would have your vet take a look at these areas closely as they likely will need a short course of antibiotics to fully resolve. There is also "hot spot" spray available at your local pet store that MAY resolve this skin infection as an alternative. I hope that Cookie's skin heals up well soon! Best of luck and take care.

That could be compatible with an infection possible with fungal infection. Bacterial infection could be possible as well though. I would strongly recommend a check up and more investigations (skin scrapes and sampling) to confirm this clinical suspicion and give appropriate treatment.

It looks like a bacterial infection, maybe starting in a little spot of clipper burn, there's no way to be sure. I would clean the area with some mild soap and warm water, don't scrub too hard but try to soften and remove the crusty material, being sure to remove any trace of the soap afterward so it doesn't remain on the skin and irritate it further. Do this morning and night and if the area does not significantly improve in the next few days or gets worse, get him in to see your vet for an exam

It could be caused by a bacterial skin infection, ringworm, mites/parasites, or allergies. Have your vet take a look at her to determine the cause. Your vet can do a skin scrape and /or culture to help diagnose and treat. You could try to bathe her with a medicated dog shampoo and see if that helps.

This looks like he has a mild skin infection or perhaps some irritation from a harness. You can bathe this area in a medicated shampoo which should improve the skin over time. If the harness is rubbing the area I would switch the harness. It the bald area is getting worse or spreading then I would bring him in for an exam. They may do a skin scraping to see whether the problem is caused by bacteria, yeast or mites. Once they have the specific diagnosis they can give Oswald the correct medication for treatment. Hi there and thank you for using pet coach to address your concern. What you are describing could be due to allergies or a skin infection. I would recommend starting a shampoo such as Douxo PS chlorhexidine combination shampoo and bathe twice weekly. I would also recommend welactin omega 3 fish oil, essential 6 spot on by dermoscent and malacetic conditioning spray. If this does not imprive the current problem or it worsens, i would have a veterinarian look at this for further trestment recommendations. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction. Scabbing/hair loss can be caused by a number of things including infections from bacteria/yeast/fungus on the skin, allergies, metabolic changes internally, wounds or scratches, parasites, and more. Making sure Rosie is on a good monthly flea and tick preventive may help if you see parasites. If the area is not improving or is expanding in size it is best to have your vet take a look. They may recommend taking a skin scraping of the area to have it tested for possible causes. Be sure to also let your vet know of any other changes such as changes in appetite or energy levels. As some infections can be contagious to other pets and people, washing your hands after handling the area is best to help minimize spread.
