What are the best pet-friendly indoor plants safe for my home?

The ASPCA list is a reliable source and one that I use in practice. If a plant is toxic it could stay in a separate room since most toxic plants only cause symptoms if ingested, however I wouldn’t recommend having any true lilies in the house since even a small amount of pollen can be toxic and pollen could be carried on clothing.

Hello. It is always best to be safe than to be sorry. If you are at all unsure about a plant, it may be best to either move it to a room the cat cannot get access to, or rehome the plant. The Pothos plant (Devils' Iv) is listed on the ASPCA website as being poisonous to dogs. It can cause the following clinical symptoms: Oral irritation, pain and swelling of mouth, tongue and lips, excessive drooling, vomiting (not horses), difficulty swallowing. Pet Poison Helpline is a good resource with lots of information on a variety of potential toxins; here's a list of some common house and garden plants that can be toxic: https://www.petpoisonhelpline.com/pet-owners/basics/top-10-plants-poisonous-to-pets/ Bee stings can certainly happen, and if Dixie should encounter a bee sting, you could help prevent an allergic reaction by giving benadryl, but I'd double check with your vet before giving any medication. Not all succulents are toxic, but to know for sure you would need the genus and species of plant. Some of them look very similar, toxic or not. Once you have this information, you can search online. To be safe, keep it away from your bird until it can be deemed safe or not.
