What OTC calcium supplements are safe for my dog: human or pet?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I recommend feeding a pregnant dog puppy food. MOST dogs do not need a calcium supplement. Little breed dogs are at a higher risk of low calcium. Low calcium IF it will be a problem, occurs after birth during the first few days with large litters nursing or in small breed dogs. But in general, I can tell you that a one-time overdose of calcium tablets like Tums or calcium-containing vitamins is usually not a major problem - calcium in this form is poorly absorbed from the GI tract, so most dogs have to eat a truly massive amount of cause any toxicity issues. You may see some mild GI upset, but other problems are probably unlikely. But if you have any concerns, the safest bet is always to have your dog seen by a vet - if she ate them within the past couple of hours, the vet can induce vomiting to help make sure there won't be any problems.

Unfortunately there are no over the counter pain medications that are safe for dogs. I would recommend discussing with your veterinarian if there is something you can switch him to that is more cost effective and still approved for use in dogs. I would not give any supplements to Cholo. This could be way more vitamin D than he needs and could cause other problems. It sounds like he has arthritis pain. Glucosamine chindroitin is ok but he may need something stronger that he would get from a vet. Good luck and kisses to Cholo!

Yes, you are correct, it's too much calcium. As I said in your previous post, Chloe's dog food will give her all the calcium she needs and she doesn't need any extra. Too much causes medical issues. You are giving her the fish oil pill and joint supplement, that is plenty of supplements for her. You don't need to give her any more. I hope this helps :-)
