Can I give my dog human omega or protein powder supplements?

Good morning Ms Yeung! I would not give this supplement to Mochu if it contains D3. Too much vitamin D can be toxic to dogs, as it causes hypercalcemia (increased blood calcium) which can lead to kidney failure, haemorrhage, and tissue mineralization in the heart, liver and kidneys. She will be getting all the vitamin D she needs from her food, and too much will not be good for her. It's fine to give her Omega 3 supplements, but make sure they don't contain extra vitamin D. With the omega fatty acids, she can have 1,000 mg fish oil containing 300 mg of EPA/DHA combined for every 30 pounds of body weight. I hope this helps :-)

This is a multivitamin labeled for people so I would not recommmed giving this to a pet because they require much smaller doses of vitamins than people do. Typically GI upset would ensure if given people vitamins. I would instead recommend a pet formulated multivitamin and only if the pet has a known deficiency or condition that we are treating for. Most high quality dog foods have all the added nutrients already in the food, so supplements are generally not needed. I hope this helps! Take care.

I would not recommend this strength for a chihuhua and recommend either a smaller strength capsule such as viacutan or a liquid supplement which you can measure more accurately. Excess of any supplementation is undesirable and he would be effectively receiving 3-4 times the recommended amount

I recommend stopping that immediately unless directed by your Vet. As for the fish oil, that is fine but how often depends on the brand you are using. Hi there. If Ace is healthy and is eating a good quality commercial dog food, there is no particular need to supplement his diet with anything else. But if you want to, you could certainly give a daily probiotic such as Forti-Flora for dogs, as well as a multi-vitamin such as Pet-Tabs.

If you are giving Motis a dog food formulated for senior dogs, she will be getting all the vitamins and minerals she needs to be healthy. You can give her a glucosamine supplemental which will help with her joint health, but otherwise no other supplements are needed. Too many vitamins and minerals can be detrimental to her health, so you want to avoid overdosing her on those. I recommend feeding a high quality senior dog food food such as Royal Canin, Hills Science Diet, Purina ProPlan, or Iams. Best of luck.
