I have a jack-rat terrier 15 months old, and yesterday I noticed his stools were soft almost runny and a terrible odor when he passes gas. He's not had new food, and is up to date with vet for maintenance. I can tell he doesn't feel well and he is eating grass here and there. What can this be?

It could be a gastrointestinal infection. withhold food for 12 hours then offer him boiled boneless chicken and rice every 6 hours in small portions. if he is eating and not vomiting, continue with this diet for 2 days. After 2 days, you can put him back gradually on his normal food.
If the diarrhea continues, take him to the vet to get treatment.
