Why is my dog's runny eye not improving with allergy treatment?

Dry eye can result in the discharge in the picture you posted and can require more than just Artificial Tears to treat. (That would be more common than an allergy problem especially since only one eye is affected.) Hello. The drops that suppress the immune system are not treating a food allergy, rather they are treating an auto-immune disease that affects the tear duct itself. Your vet should work-up the eye by doing a schemer tear test to determine if Fall is producing an appropriate amount of tears. If Fall has a low tear production then the immune-suppressive drops should help. I would continue to try these and see if it resolves. If these are not working then I would suggest seeing an ophthalmologist. Good luck with Fall.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Lilly. Her eyes look very irritated. She may require a steroid drop to decrease the swelling in her eyes. Blepharitis is commonly due to allergies. This can be due to something in her diet, environment or even something she has come into contact with such as a shampoo. I hope this information helps!

Hi there! I'm sorry to hear about Winston's eye troubles. Since he was already treated for pink eye, perhaps another visit with his veterinarian to follow up would be a good idea. The doctor can recheck his eyes and make sure the infection hasn't returned. It could also be allergies, and you may need something stronger than benadryl. Other things I could think of in a young dog are viral infections in the respiratory tract that can cause eye discharge to build up. Also, they can sometimes have issues with eye lash hairs growing in the wrong places, and even with the eye lids rolling in. Sometimes these issues get worse as they grow, so may not be obvious initially. I think a follow up vet visit is definitely warranted. I wouldn't worry too much until the veterinarian looks at the eyes and reassesses the situation though. It may be something as simple as needing another round of medication, or even just a stronger allergy medication. Best of luck!
