My dog rubs his face on the carpet after a walk. Is he itchy?

It sounds like something irritated his skin. Do some investigating and see if you can part his hair away and look at his skin for more clues. IF you don't see any irritation, then the culprit was probably not severe enough to cause harm to the skin. You can then try bathing him in an aloe-based or oatmeal-based shampoo to see if this can help calm his skin down and then monitor him for the next few hours for improvement. If hsi irriation worsens or does not resolve, then it is best to get Bix evaluated by your vet for further treatment. It can be but it could also be due to happiness, a normal itch or whiskers/beard hair getting in his mouth if he has a furry muzzle. If this is a new behavior, then itching/allergy becomes more likely. The best way to know would be to stop the transition and put him back on his old food, if the rubbing stops, then you know it was an allergy to that senior food. You could then look for a senior formula in the same brand of food that Charlie is currently eating (the original, non-senior formula). Try to stick with the same protein and carbohydrate source as well. Also look at the lips and muzzle for any redness, scabbing or signs of infection because this could also point towards an allergy. Hello. Is it possible that Charlie was bitten by something like a tick? This just looks like an acute inflammatory reaction. If you have some hydrocortisone cream, I would just rub a bit into the skin several times a day. If you do not have any cream, then please visit your Petco who will have several brands, including Zymox which is a very good product. Hi there and thank you for using Pet Coach to address your concerns. What you are describing sounds behavioral but could potentially be caused by allergies as well. If Marbles has an allergy and is itchy around the face this may be his way of itching his face by rubbing it on the carpet. You can try Benadryl to see if this helps and also using a shampoo such as Duoxo PS Calm shampoo to see if this stops or decreases the behavior. If that doesn't seem to help and Charlie's skin continues to look red or he appears bothered by his skin and itches or scratches, you may want to take him to his veterinarian. I hope this helps!

I can see the bumps on his chin - these may be caused by a skin infection, which can be very uncomfortable and itchy. I recommend having Charlie seen by a vet as soon as possible as Charlie may need antibiotics. In the meantime, you should try to keep the area clean and consider getting Charlie an E-collar or "cone" to keep him from scratching the area.

I think that would be uncomfortable for Felix. It could be a contact allergy from his walk. If he is scratching it, it can become infected from continuous scratching. I would take him into the vet to have this treated. Best of luck.
