My dog has red, dry, itchy skin from dust. What can I apply?

You should try soothing oatmeal shampoo (can be by TropiClean or Burt's Bees - both available online and at pet shops) - it will give Flip some relief. Once your vet is fully open, please take Flip for an appointment as he may need a prescription-only shampoo or anti-allergic tablets.

I am so sorry that Charlie is so uncomfortable. I do not know what therapies you have already tried, so I will list my recommendations. I would start with trial treating for mites. Bravecto, simparica, or ivermectin would be appropriate choices. If that doesn’t help then I would test for ringworm. If still no improvement I would request an injection called cytopoint to help with the itch and I would try a hypoallergenic diet for 2/3 months. I would recommend using the below products which you can find online quite easily. As for the itching, these products should help but if it is very severe, you could discuss anti-itch medications with your veterinarian to help control the itch while you are treating the primary allergy. Hello. Is it possible that Charlie was bitten by something like a tick? This just looks like an acute inflammatory reaction. If you have some hydrocortisone cream, I would just rub a bit into the skin several times a day. If you do not have any cream, then please visit your Petco who will have several brands, including Zymox which is a very good product. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This is possibly due to allergies. Given her young age, I would suspect that if that is the case it could be due to flea allergies. Another possibility is something like mange. This is something your veterinarian would check with a physical examination and basic diagnostics like a skin scrape and cytology. It really comes down to figuring out what is causing her allergies so that they can be treated or the specific allergen avoided. There are many things that can cause allergies though in most cases they can be broken down into 3 big categories: flea, food and environmental allergies. Allergies are usually worked up in a stepwise fashion starting with flea allergies as this is the easiest and cheapest to take care of. If not on a flea preventative, then it would be a good idea to get started on one. If already on one then it would be a good idea to change to something else (there are many new products out in the market). If not improved in 1-3 months then it is time to move on and check for food allergies by switching to a novel diet (new protein and new carbohydrate). If that does not seem to be the issue then you are left out having to check for environmental allergies which require blood and/or skin tests. Allergies can be very frustrating to deal with at first but so rewarding at the end when we are able to treat them effectively!
