My dog rolled in dirt after a bath. Can I rinse him with water?

Routine bathing is best done with an Oatmeal Dog shampoo and I like to advise an Oatmeal Shampoo that doesn't have soap or detergent in it. This way your flea and tick products that you use won't be stripped away and will actually last as long as they say. You can also use an oatmeal based coat conditioner to condition the skin and hair coat. Good luck with Ziggy. If you don't want to mess with bathing, you could always spray a nice dog cologne or pet odor spray on him and then towel dry him off. Have fun and keep walkiing.

Hello and thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Rinsing Pax daily with lukewarm water should not cause any problems. Please, do not use any cosmetics, like conditioners or shampoos, and make sure you dry her with a towel or hair dryer after each bath.

Is Bobby on flea and tick prevention? If not I would recommend it. I would recommend bathing him when he gets all dirty. Typically we don't recommend bathing dogs more than once a month unless medically necessary but if he continues to get dirty you may need to. I would recommend trying to walk him on a leash so he stops rolling in the dirt. If he is that itchy I recommend a vet visit to address the underlying cause. I would recommend bathing him every 2-4 weeks as needed to prevent overdrying of the skin. An oatmeal based puppy shampoo is great to use. Then in between baths you can use puppy wipes which are found at your local pet store. This works wel to my overdry your pet but also keep him smelling fresh. : ) I hope this helps!

Good question., you did the right thing. Percy will be fine as long as you dried him off and he didn't get chilled. If he's eating normally and moving around he will be fine. I like to clean them up to get rid of the dirt and odor so they are more comfortable and the skin doesn't develop problems from being so dirty and smelly. Hi there and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It is true that over bathing may cause dryness and can be irritating to the skin. However, sometimes dogs with skin allergies and bathed very frequently and it actually helps them. So you may need to monitor Bear and see if frequent bathing causes any dryness or redness to his skin. There are several products on the market that are more like dry shampoo or mousse that you could brush through Bear's coat to eliminate some of the dirt and odor. If necessary you can also bathe Bear every one to two weeks, but please do it less frequently if you notice any dryness or redness of the skin related to bathing.

You do not need to use shampoo. Poop is water soluble and will wash off just with luke warm water. If you want to get rid of any residual smell, wash off the poop with water first and then take a very small amount of doggie or baby shampoo , spread it on your hands and then rub it on your puppy and immediately rinse the puppy.. This should work. Only wash your puppy when it is soiled with poop or similar horrible things. No need to wash it regularly.
