Why won't my dog eat her regular food after eating human food?

Pet's info: Dog | Pomeranian | Female | 3 months and 9 days old | 5.512 lbs

Sir according to me, i think my pet had banned her regular food (chicken with rice, pedigree, fish, egg) because she got the taste of curry kfc grilled chicken, from that day she refuses to eat. I think thats why she banned all her regular food, so tell me sir can be this is a reason for ignoring food.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Yes, this is known as dietary indiscretion and it could be the reason. He may be showing signs of dietary indiscretion which can happen from eating something that does not sit well in the stomach. Clinical symptoms that can occur include not eating, vomiting, diarrhea and abdominal pain. Sometimes this resolves on its own. However, sometimes this does require some form of therapy which is mostly supportive in nature. If she develops any vomiting, diarrhea or inappetence, have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Good luck and best wishes!

If she isn't vomiting, no diarrhea, and behavior is normal this could just be a simple change in personality as she is getting older especially if she is coming back later to finish her bowl of food. Some dogs are what I call "food hounds" and they gobble all there food at once while others are "nibblers" or "grazers" and they take their time to eat and they eat throughout the day. Sometimes a puppy starts out as one and changes to the other. If she isn't finishing her food throughout the day or there are another of symptoms then I would contact your vet for an exam to ensure there isn't more serious going on like an infection, foreign body, etc. I hope this helps!

There is obviously something very wrong with her and i am not sure it is related to the food, in any case you must take her to the vet urgently, she will need a proffesional diagnosis and treatment which you cannot provide.

Hi there and thank you for using pet coach to address your concern. Vomiting can be a symptom of many different causes. Many cases can be directly linked to the diet or an imbalance of the normal intestinal bacteria. I recommend switching the dog food to something different such as science diet or royal canin. Feed the new diet for at least 4 weeks. Of there is no improvement, then I would add a probiotic such as Purina fortiflora which can be found online quite easily or at your local pet store. If she is still vomiting, then I would recommend having a veterinarian examine her so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. I hope this helps! My dog won't eat, has upset stomach, and threw up. What now?

Since last night was Halloween, think about if there's anything she could have eaten that she shouldn't have and take her to the vet ASAP if you realize your chocolate stash or your entire pan of bacon wrapped something or anothers from the potluck is missing. If you can't think of anything she ate, it's generally ok to wait 24 hours to see if she get back on her food naturally. Sometimes something goes wrong in the gut and we don't know why but it resolves quickly. If she's not back to normal in 24 hours, or has any vomiting or diarrhea in the mean time, she needs to go to her vet for evaluation and supportive care. My dog acts normal, won't eat her food, but eats human food. Why?

I am sorry to hear that Camila is not eating and I can see why you are concerned as am I. It is great that she is acting normal and playful but as most dogs are very food motivated a decreased appetite is their way of telling us they don't feel like themselves. Decreased appetite is unfortunately a very common symptom for many different problems, some more serious then others. It can be from something going on with the GI tract itself or any other body system (other organs). Is there anything she could have eaten that she was not supposed to (got in to the trash, chewed up toys)? What I would recommend is that Camila have a visit to a veterinarian for an examination. More than likely they will also want to check some lab work to look at her organ function and potentially take some x-rays. Based on these results they may prescribe some medication or may recommend additional testing to investigate her decreased appetite further. Why is my dog sick, not eating, and tired after human food?

I suppose it's possible but I am concerned there is something else going on. Unhealthy human food can cause pancreatitis. Pancreatitis can lead to liver damage, peritonitis and multi-organ failure. Queen could also have a partial intestinal blockage or have kidney damage. Because she has abnormal for 1-2 weeks now, I recommend to have her examined as soon as she can be. She will need some bloodwork and she may need a radiograph. I recommend to go ahead and start a bland diet now. a bland diet is not likely to fix her problem but it won't hurt. A bland diet can consist of 25% boiled white meat chicken and 75% boiled white rice. This should all be plain. Encourage her to drink water and keep her activity minimal so she is resting. Make sure to bring in a stool sample as well because parasites can also cause prolonged GI issues. I hope the doctor is able to identify the problem quickly and that Queenie starts feeling better quickly! Please feel free to post any additional questions.

My dog ate a chicken wing, now stomach noises & won't eat. Vet?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! That could have resulted in an obstruction which is now causing inappetence. Another possibility is of course dietary indiscretion. I highly recommend that you have him evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. This is likely going to require some bloodwork and abdominal imaging such as radiographs or ultrasound. If an obstruction is noted, further therapy may be needed. Good luck and have a great day!

Why is my dog not eating after eating table food and acting tired?

A few things could be going on: One, if he got into people food and it was high fat or very rich, he could be experiencing some digestive upset. Picking up his regular food and feeding a bland meal of boiled rice and chicken may help settle his stomach and get him back on schedule. Signs of GI upset also include vomiting, diarrhea, sore belly, etc. If this is the case and a bland diet doesn't help, or he has quite a few GI symptoms, seeking veterinary care is best to rule out more serious issues such as pancreatitis from eating people food. Two, if he prefers people food to his food, it could be he's trying to "hold out" in the hopes you are going to give in and give him more. If he's otherwise healthy and normal, it is best to stop offering ALL people food and treats, and only offer his dog food. You may need to put his food down for 10-15 minutes several times throughout the day to encourage him to eat. Most dogs will not starve, and will eventually check out their food and eat it. (Sometimes pretending its people food can kick-start this as well!)

My dog vomits and has low appetite after eating strange things.
