My dog has a light red streak in his formed stool. Is it serious? Vet?

The red steak in the picture may be blood; or I could also be convinced that it is some light red material in the poo. If your dog tends to rip up things like clothes or other non-food items, then I would inspect the poo a little closer. If it is blood, then no need to worry too much at this time. This indicates that Paxi has bleeding in her colon, rectum, or anus. This can happen due to certain infections, or trauma (this can happen if Paxi is scooting) to the anus. However, this bleeding is often transient (often goes away in a day or two) and does not need treatment right away. If she also had diarrhea, then I would be more concerned. If the stools remain a normal shape like this, and Paxi is otherwise behaving normal, then I think it's OK to wait a day or two and see if the red streaks stop. If you continue to see this for more than 24 hours, then I recommend taking Paxi and a poo sample to the vet for examination. I hope that helps and all is well with Paxi.

Poor Winston! I can see blood and mucus in his stool. This can be caused by stress, especially if he is an anxious traveler. However, other conditions may also cause this and this episode may just be a coincidence with travel. Conditions such as intestinal parasites, inflammatory bowel disease, and foreign bodies may also be to blame. I recommend keeping a close eye on Winston - if these signs continue, or you feel that Winston is not feeling like himself, he should be seen by a vet right away. If he is eating, drinking and otherwise acting ok I would not be too concerned. However, if the stool continues to have blood in it for more than 1 or 2 days I would recommend taking Watson to the vet to be checked out.

As long as Isabelle is behaving normally, you can watch her at home. Consider a 24 hour fast, allowing small amounts of water or unflavored PediaLyte. Resume feeding a bland diet in small, frequent amounts. Begin with 1 tablespoon of food and gradually increase the amount if no other symptoms develop. Feed bland until the stool is normal then transition slowly to her regular diet. Monitor for lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite or abdominal pain. if any of these symptoms develop, have Isabelle physically examined by your vet.

Hello. That is definitely a little blood in the stool, but not enough to be overly concerned with. The first step is to have the stool examined by your veterinarian to see if he picked up some parasites, like hookworms or whipworms. If all is clear, your vet may decide to put Milo on an antibiotic, like metronidazole for a few days, but as long as he is feeling fine, & his stool remains fairly normal, this is not an emergency. You can add a canine probiotic to the diet that can help restore nirnak bacteria. You can feed boiled chicken and rice and yogurt also. A sample should be checked for parasites as he may need to be dewormed. Sometimes this can be caused by an infection, diet changes or stress from a new home and routine. If vomiting starts it he stops eating he needs to be seen immediately

Hello, thank you for you question about Lou. Since Lou is otherwise acting normal and his stool is fairly normal in consistency I would not be extremely worried about a small amount of blood. There are small blood vessels in the colon wall that can rupture and lead to blood in the feces. If a pet strains a large amount to defecate or they are experiencing inflammation in their colon wall this can lead to exposure/rupture of these blood vessels. If Lou is on any medications post-operatively or is working harder to defecate due to his recovery process that could be the reason for the blood. If the amount of blood progresses, he develops diarrhea, or becomes lethargic/inappetant I would recommend having him evaluated by your veterinarian. Hope this helps, good luck!
