My dog has red spots on his stomach. What to do & when to call vet?

It may be an allergy to something specific in the environment or something else like fleas or food. This may go away on its own if it is something minor. Hi and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Sorry to see that Finn is having this problem. I see lesions or spots like this occasionally on dogs in the same areas. Most of the time these spots resolve without treatment but most of the cases I have seen are much more mild with fewer spots. I always wonder whether these are related to some kind of insect sting/spider bites, contact irritation from something in the environment, etc. Some of these lesions or spots can resemble small areas of hemorrhage too which could indicate blood clotting disorders and those causes can be numerous. I would advise your veterinarian evaluate these since Finn has a lot of them. I think that if he is acting completely normal you could monitor this and see if they resolve. So if he acts normal, eats, drinks, uses the bathroom normally you could just see if they resolve. If anything is different, he should be evaluated immediately. Hello. Is it possible that Charlie was bitten by something like a tick? This just looks like an acute inflammatory reaction. If you have some hydrocortisone cream, I would just rub a bit into the skin several times a day. If you do not have any cream, then please visit your Petco who will have several brands, including Zymox which is a very good product. Poor guy. I am so sorry Charlie is ill and has this suspicious erythematous lesion on his belly near his penis. This looks like a possible mild bleeding under the skin or potentially an adverse reaction to a tick or black fly bite. A black fly bite wouln't cause systemic illness however (not eating, lethargy). There is possibly an internal issues going on here and more information is needed to determine what exactly. I would recommend taking him in to the vet first thing in the morning. He should be stable enough to wait until morning as long as she is not having any of the following: 1) Pale gums 2) Severe lethargy and non-responsiveness 3) Excessive vomiting that is continuous 4) More red spots developing on the skin in various places If he does not show any of the above symptoms, then it is likely ok to wait until morning to get Charlie seen and fully evaluated. The main concern is if there is an underlying bleeding disorder or immune system disoder (i.e. IMHA, IMTP). I hope that things work out well for your pet Charlie and that he feels better soon! Hi there, These appear similar to black fly bites, which appear as dramatic dark red welts, but are otherwise harmless. The skin remains smooth but may be slightly raised or swollen. Google images is helpful on this one! If the skin is itchy, crusting, flaking, and not smooth- that could be a sign of a bacterial or fungal infection that needs diagnostics and treatment. These are likely fly or insect bites. They should fade in the next day or two. If he begins to itch, contact your veterinarian for a dose of Benadryl (diphenhydramine). Place an e-collar (cone) on him to prevent licking. These bites are common in the Spring.
