My dog has a red spot on his tummy. Is it a carpet burn or normal?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 40 lbs

Not sure if this is a carpet burn or something else

Hello,

That is likely normal from where Benny lays on his tummy.
If it becomes itchy, painful, swollen, oozy, flaky, or bumpy, those would be signs of a skin problem that needs medical treatment.

If it is, it should begin to resolve in the next day or two. Place an e-collar (cone) on Benny to prevent licking or chewing. Keep the area clean and dry. If it spreads or worsens, develops discharge or is itchy, then have him seen by your veterinarian in the morning.

Hello and thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. The spots look unusual. They don't look like typical allergic reaction, infection or parasite infestation. Maybe Benny was bitten by a bug or a tick ? Please, take Benny to your local vet for full clinical examination. Your vet may recommend blood test to check his platelet count and skin testing to find out what is going on. Benny will likely need an anti-inflammatory medication in cream or ointment for a few days.

My dog has a black spot and razor burn from grooming. Is it normal?

This does not look concerning to me. I suspect it is just normal pigmentation in the skin (like freckle-- only obvious quite large!). If he is licking at it a lot, or if the associated skin seems warm or inflamed, have your vet take a look. Again, overall I don't think you need to worry. Hello. Since Charlie does not seem to be bothered by these areas, I would not be too concerned. They may be insect bites or just very minor areas of focal irritation. As long as Charlie seems unaffected, just monitor for additional occurances & call your vet if he begins to lick, chew or gnaw at any areas excessively. My puppy has brown spots on her belly and licks it. Is it normal?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Based on your picture, the brown spots are normal freckling. I can't tell if there are 2 red bumps with yellow discharge. If there are that could be a skin infection. Skin infections can cause her to lick the area or scratch. We treat with oral antibiotics. If there aren't any red bumps there then I think her belly is normal. Have a great day!

What's this red bullseye spot on my 10-month-old boxer's belly?

A skin lesion like you are describing can have multiple causes, such as a tick (or other insect) bite, or a fungal or bacterial infection, among others.
