My dog has a red, scabby, sensitive eye. Should I take him to the vet?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pembroke Welsh Corgi | Male | neutered | 1 year and 1 month old | 30 lbs

Gambino has some redness and scabbing on his eye. We noticed it yesterday. It’s sensitive to any touch and we’re not sure how long ago it started. Should we just monitor it or should he go to the vet

Hello, sorry to hear about Gambino. It looks like he may have blepharitis. This could be caused by a local infection or allergies most commonly. If it is not getting better or if it’s getting worse then he should be seen by his veterinarian to make sure he doesn’t need medications. Also have him evaluation if he develops discharge from his eye, if he begins to scratch at the eye, or if he is holding his eye closed. Hope this helps and best of luck.
