My pug has red rashes and wounds. Is it an incurable skin infection?

Those spots on Pugsy could be several things including fleas (even if you don;t see them, they could be present), allergies, skin mites, bacterial infection or endocrine disease. Because these lesions are pretty wide spread, I recommend to have him examined as soon as the vet can get him in. Until then, there are a couple things you can do at home and they can help but they may not address the underlying cause. You can try adding in an omega 3 fatty acid supplement for dogs, this can help improve the skin health. You may also try changing his diet to something like Royal Canin or Nutro as they are aimed at skin health. You can wash the lesions once a day (not his whole body, just the lesions). The look like cuts or abrasions. I would look carefully around the house and yard to see if there is anything that Pickles may have run through or gotten tangled in to cause this type of wound. In the first picture, there may be damage deeper than just skin level, and I would recommend that this one be checked out by a vet. You can continue to use the Neosporin and prevent licking, but no need to continue using peroxide. He should definitely be examined by a vet if there is a creamy discharge, discharge with a foul odor, swelling around the wound, or if Pickles develops any other abnormal symptoms.

This problem could be caused by a mix between chin and skin fold dermatitis usually caused by a bacterial infection. Usually antibiotics and long-term topical care (e.g. medicated wipes and ointments) will prevent this condition from progressing. In your dog’s case oral antibiotics may be indicated. Hello, sorry to hear about Amy. It sounds like she may have allergies especially if she is very itchy in addition to the rashes. Other causes of this could include a bacterial or fungal infection. It sounds like Amy needs to have her veterinarian evaluate her skin and determine if this is associated with allergies or an infection, and then , they can give you the right medications to treat this. Mickey has a sweet face! It does look like he has had chronic skin infections. Make sure they are checking his skin for yeast, bacteria, and mites. I recommend having his thyroid checked to make sure it's not under active. If that is normal, talk with your vet about flea allergies, environmental allergies, and food allergies. There is likely something he is allergic to causing the frequent infections. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Chubby! He is SOO cute! I think Chubby should see a vet. I am not familiar with an incurable fungal skin infection in pugs. Possible causes are: bacterial skin infection, demodex, or ring worm. I would have a skin scrape done to check for mites and then put him on an oral flea and tick medication like Nexgard, Simparica and Bravecto which also kills demodex. I would submit sample for a fungal culture to rule out ring worm. If he has a bacterial skin infection then antibiotics are used. I hope this helps and I wish Chubby a speedy recovery!

A photo may be helpful. Face wrinkles in Pugs can become infected pretty easily. Ideally, take her to your vet for an exam. She may need oral antibiotics or a topical prescription medication. It may help keep it at bay in the future if you use some medicated wipes to gently clean her face and skin folds.
