My dog has a red eye. Is it an infection and what should I do?

  It Lobo as Louie is suffering from an eye infection, it is relatively common in dogs. you will need to take him to the vet the first chance you get, the vet will check the eyes, if it is indeed a simple eye infection your vet will prescribe an antibiotic eye drops that will probably solve the problem in no time.

  I would definitely take Charlie to your local vet asap. The eye is such a delicate and important structure that any problem with it should be considered an emergency. It doesn't require treatment, but the eye needs to be examined to make sure there isn't any other damage to the eye due to the fact a subconjunctival hemorrhage can be due to trauma, von Willebrand factor deficiency, and certain infectious diseases.

  Thank you for submitting your question regarding Louie. Increased blinking, squinting and tears can all indicate a painful eye. If this behavior continues, I recommend that he sees his veterinarian. He could have a scratch across the surface of his eye, an eye infection or another condition causing his eye to be sore. In the meantime, do not allow him to paw at
  or rub the eye. Based on the examination, eye tests may be recommended. Then medication can be prescribed if needed. I hope this information helps!

  If the eye is nonpainful (no excessive tears, not blinking it a lot or keeping it closed or rubbing it) you can see how it looks in the morning. If she is doing any of the above get her to a Vet sooner than later.
  
  If the eye is still more red than the other eye tomorrow schedule an appointment.
  
  It could just be mild irritation or allergies or something more serious (a scratch on cornea, inflammation of the eye, glaucoma though I would except the eye to be painful).
