My dog has a red blister between his toes. Is it serious or just minor?

Hi there. I believe it is reasonable to try salt soaks for something like this before you take Harvey in. I would try trwjceba day for 15 minutes at a time and drying well afterwards. Do not allow him to lick the foot. If the blister continues or grows in size afterwards-its time for a trip to his doctor.

Ouch! That should likely be checked out by your vet in person. Tumors on the toes can aggressively appear and spread like this, and other issues such as burns, blisters, cysts, sores, infections, etc should be treated by your vet. They can take a sample of the affected tissue to look for the cause behind it, and provide treatment options such as removal, antibiotics, medicate shampoos, and more. Until you can get to your vet, it's best to keep the area clean and dry and to keep Bossy from licking at it with an Elizabethan (cone) collar. This can help reduce irritation.

This is often differentiated by a test called a fine needle aspirate (FNA) which is a pain free, inexpensive and easy procedure which in most cases will help reach a diagnosis. Sometimes a biopsy is needed for a definitive diagnosis. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. I am really hoping for something benign. Oh goodness! That looks sore! It actually looks like it could be an infection of the toenail bed, or a tumor of the nail bed. Soaking in warm water with Epsom salts would be a good thing to do tonight until you are able to get him to a veterinarian tomorrow. Even though a picture would help to understand better the underlying cause, this presentation could be due to a trauma (presence of foreign bodies) or localized spot of skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria). Allergic reactions can cause them as well in rare cases. A check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. If the problem is related to the presence of foreign bodies then a quick surgical procedure (sometimes even under local anesthetic) is needed to remove them. Disinfection can eventually be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any licking. Poor Hugo! Underlying causes of these types of cystic lesions can include allergies, foreign material lodged into tissue, and immune mediated conditions, all of which can become infected with bacteria and/or yeast. Hugo should be examined by his vet because he will likely need an antibiotic or antifungal medication either orally or as a topical foot soak.

A growth like Spike has on his toe could be related to infection, a benign mass like a cyst, but unfortunately it could also be a cancerous growth. It would be best to schedule a visit to your veterinarian so that he or she can obtain a small needle aspirate sample from the growth and decide if it is cancerous. A lot of growths on the toes can be cured if removed surgically. I hope for the best outcome for Spike!
