My dog has a raw spot from rubbing his face. What should I do?

Sometimes these lesions can occur from rubbing the muzzle on cages doors, carpets...etc. Sometimes they can also be from infection and less commonly from an autoimmune disease. I would recommend to have him examined by his veterinarian who will likely prescribe medication orally. Treating this area topically can be difficult as most dogs will lick off any medication you apply to the area so oral medications are generally best. You should also protect the area from further rubbing with an elizabethan collar which should be worn at all times. You can try gently washing the ears with an antibacterial hand soap (rinse well) once daily if he tolerate it. Hello, this looks like a case of moist dermatitis, or a hot spot, sometimes caused by an allergy. You can gently clean this with an antibacterial solution like Hibiclens available at all pharmacies. It sounds as though Frank is really preventing his sore from healing. I would recommend placing a cone/e-collar on him to prevent him from rubbing his face. You may also want to talk to your veterinarian about using a topical ointment/antibiotic to help it heal more quickly. An ointment may help reduce irritation which in turn may stop him from rubbing.

I would not put any topical medication on the cut. If she is trying to rub or scratch it an e-collar may be helpful to prevent her from causing more trauma. This will also help keep her from licking her legs. If either lesions becomes red or oozing she may require a vet visit for antibiotics. But many of these will heal of you can prevent her from scratching, licking or rubbing them. Most vet clinics, pet stores or feed stores have e-collars if you don't have one for her.

Poor Mickey! Yes you do need to keep him from scratching it. If he can reach it with his mouth, he needs to wear an Elizabethan collar at all times. If it’s in an area he can scratch with his feet, have him wear a little T-shirt or onesie to cover it up. You can wash the area with hand soap once a day and rinse it well. This will help to remove some of the exudate. Lastly, you may call his veterinarian and ask about getting a medication for itching. Hello, sorry to hear about Luna. It looks like she has intertrigo or skin fold pyoderma. This is generally a superficial skin infection from excess friction and moisture of the skin folds that leads to excess growth in normal skin bacteria/yeast that then becomes a local infection. What you may need to do is place an e-collar over her head so that she is not scratching at the area and then you may apply a light film of triple antibiotic to treat the infection.
