My dog ate rat poison, allergic to K1 injection. Can she take pills?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 45 lbs

Hi there, my dog has eaten rat poison and needs K1 therapy. Last night she had the vitamin K1 injection subcutaneously but had a severe allergic reaction with hives. She is supposed to have another injection today and then move onto the oral pills but the reaction was so bad I thought she was going to die. What can I do now? Does this mean she is also allergic to the pills? Is there any alternative antidote? Any help you have would be massively appreciated

There is no other antidote other than the vitamin K. I would skip the next injection and start with the tablets. It is usually less of a dose at a single time compared to the injections so it will decrease the chance of another reaction. If a reaction does occur again, I would contact your vet to see about prescribing addition medicine to help fight the reaction
