My dog has a rash with bumps around her mouth. What should I do?

In my opinion this presentation would require a check up at your local vet and possibly antibiotics. I would suspect a primary or secondary bacterial infection but allergies and autoimmune disorders may be present as well. I do not think Benadryl will work unfortunately but buster collar will avoid further lesions.

Poor guy! Your can try this: It won’t hurt him if he licks it off. However, if it’s not improving in 5 days or so, I would recommend that you schedule a recheck with your vet. I’m worried he may need antibiotics, as he may have a deep skin infection. If it continues to be a problem , a skin biopsy may be recommended. Thanks for asking PetCoach!

Hi, from your pictures it appears that Mackenzie Ray is having an allergic reaction to something. You may see hives, small bumps, all over her skin. If she is vomiting or having trouble breathing, she needs to see a vet immediately. You can try giving her some Benadryl to see if that resolves. I cannot give you a dose but you can look one up online. Also, a shampoo with steroid can give her some relief. If this does not resolve, she may need to see a vet for some injections to make the bumps go down. Good luck, I hope this helps!

I would start by bathing her with a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner such as an oatmeal or fatty acid based twice per week. This will likely resolve the issue. Hi, and thanks for your question. This could be due to an allergy, although it could also be infection or mites. First of all, in order to rule out skin parasites, you will need to treat with a high quality flea treatment, then ask the vet to perform a skin scrape - this might reveal an infection or a mite infestation. Antibiotics may be needed at this stage to treat infections. If all of those tests came back negative, the next step is to treat the allergy symptomatically and try to discover the cause of the allergy. Three main type of allergies are usually affecting pets: food allergies, flea and parasite related ones and environmental type (allergens coming from trees, pollens, dust etc etc). Some medications can be given by the vet in order to repair any possible skin lesions (like steroids and antibiotics). The Benadryl should help if she’s itchy but she needs to see a vet to determine if it’s an infection and get her some oral antibiotics if needed. Good luck and kisses to Baby!

I recommend that she sees her veterinarian this week as she will likely require an antibiotic to clear her skin up. In the meantime, try to keep her muzzle clean and dry.
