My dog has red bumps around her mouth. When should I worry?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | spayed | 17 lbs

This morning I noticed several raised red bumps around Lulu’s mouth. They don’t seem to be bothering her and are no where else on her body. She doesn’t eat or drink from plastic dishes. Should I take her for an exam or wait a day or two to see if it clears up?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Lulu. She appears to have an infection in the skin around her mouth. I recommend that she sees her veterinarian this week as she will likely require an antibiotic to clear her skin up. In the meantime, try to keep her muzzle clean and dry. Do not allow her to paw at if she is attempting to do so. I hope this information helps!
