My 5-year-old dog has puppy teeth that bleed. Is this a problem?

Puppies are in the process of teething from 12 weeks to 6-7 months of age, so it's completely normal to see an occasional baby tooth with a bloody root on the floor during this time :) Often, there will also be small streaks of blood on toys or chew items - this is because the pup's gums are bleeding a little, and is also normal. All of his adult teeth should be coming in within the next 2-4 weeks, so after that the problem should resolve on its own.

Canine (fang) teeth usually erupt between 5-6 months of age. Since Daisy is not quite 5 months old yet, the chance of her having a fully erupted adult canine tooth is quite slim. The tooth in the picture looks much more like a baby tooth than an impressively large adult canine tooth in a dog her size. With that said, I'd still recommend having your vet perform a full oral exam on Daisy during her next visit. They may also recommend taking dental x-rays to be sure that the full tooth root came out, as retained roots can be problematic. Odds are good that her tooth was already just a little bit loose and this rough playing just sped up the process. It's always better to be safe than sorry!

Given her age, that's her baby canine. Playing with a sock wouldn't be enough to tear out an adult canine. As long as the gum looks clean and isn't continuing to bleed after a few minutes, she will be fine. She's at the right age to be shedding her baby canines and her adult ones should be coming through soon.

This is a baby tooth so it’s normal to lose them. Between four and six months dogs will lose all of their baby teeth. Sometimes you won’t see them when they fall out. Poodles do sometimes have retained canine baby teeth so if those aren’t gone by seven months they may need to be removed so the adult teeth can come in properly. Puppies lose their puppy teeth, and their adult teeth grow back in their place. This starts happening around four months of age, so yes this can be normal. You can have Luna checked by your vet to be sure since I can't say for certain without seeing her in person. Good luck, I hope this helps!

I'm so sorry that Smokey's teeth seem to be causing him some discomfort. Based on his age, however, this may be completely normal. It is common for dogs to loose their baby canine teeth around 5-6 months, so it sounds like he is right on schedule for having that tooth fall out. You can let him chew on a cold washcloth to see if that helps give him some comfort. You can also soften his food with warm water if he seems reluctant to eat because of his baby teeth. That being said, if it is his adult tooth that is loose, he needs to be seen by your vet as soon as possible. Also, if the baby tooth that is loose is at all discolored or broken, I would take him to your vet as well as it could be infected and could cause damage to the adult tooth.
