My 5-month-old poodle mix lost a tooth. Is this normal puppy teething?

I have a 5 month old poodle mix and his tooth fell out of nowhere. Just wanted to know if this is whole tooth and if he’s gonna lose more teeth

This is a baby tooth so it’s normal to lose them. Between four and six months dogs will lose all of their baby teeth. Sometimes you won’t see them when they fall out. Poodles do sometimes have retained canine baby teeth so if those aren’t gone by seven months they may need to be removed so the adult teeth can come in properly. Thank you for submitting your question regarding your puppy. Most puppies start losing baby teeth around 16 weeks of age. So this is a little early, but likely normal. You can check his front teeth and see if he has lost any of those as well. I hope this information helps!

Yes, this is normal. Sometimes small breed puppies may not lose the puppy teeth correctly, if the baby teeth are still there at 8 months of age, have her examined by the veterinarian. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.

Based on his age I agree that these are all baby teeth. Dogs lose their canine deciduous teeth between 5-6 months of age. Sounds like a normal puppy to me! Thanks for posting the question and using Pet Coach.

This is completely normal and right on schedule. These are the first teeth to fall out. Adult teeth will appear in those spots soon. The teething process takes about 6-10 weeks total. Most of the time, the teeth just seem to disappear....puppies swallow them or they end up in the grass outside, etc. Usually the last teeth to fall out are the canine or “fang” teeth. My puppy is losing teeth. Is it normal for them to fall out together?

Hi and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Max is adorable! It is very common for puppies to lose multiple teeth, not just both upper canines at once. My own puppy lost 8 teeth in one night! As they lose teeth, they may bleed a little bit, so do not be alarmed if you see a little bit of blood on anything they chew. It will resolve pretty quickly. This looks like a baby tooth. It is around this time that Butterscotch's baby teeth will be falling out so his adult teeth can come in. Usually the puppy swallows the tooth that falls out, but you can find them as well. This is normal.

My 6-month puppy lost a bloody tooth. Is it normal or did I hurt him?

Puppies are in the process of teething from 12 weeks to 6-7 months of age, so it's completely normal to see an occasional baby tooth with a bloody root on the floor during this time :) Often, there will also be small streaks of blood on toys or chew items - this is because the pup's gums are bleeding a little, and is also normal. All of his adult teeth should be coming in within the next 2-4 weeks, so after that the problem should resolve on its own.

My dog's tooth fell out. Is this normal, and what should I do?

The picture is a little blurry but it does appear to look like a tooth. Makivali should have lost all his puppy teeth by ten months old but some small breed dogs can be late in development. If you don’t know what adult teeth look like vs puppy teeth, I would recommend to have him seen by his veterinarian to know if this is a normal tooth shedding or if this is a broken tooth, tooth root abscess or other pathological process. Many times pets don’t exhibit many signs of dental pain so you can’t base a decision off how he is acting. If it’s a normal puppy tooth, no reason to change his food. Is my 9-month-old Chihuahua losing baby teeth? Should I worry?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! From your picture it appears to be a baby canine tooth. In small breed dogs sometimes the baby teeth can become retained and the puppy doesn’t lose them at all. I recommend removing the baby teeth that haven’t shed on their own when the puppy is spayed or neutered. My thoughts are that at least one Chacha’s baby canine teeth didn’t shed when it was supposed to. It was likely delayed. And it’s a GOOD thing it’s out now. If you are worried have your Vet take a look to see if any more baby teeth are present and discuss removing them at her spay. I hope this helps and have a great day!
