My dog bred after puppies. Can she be pregnant? Can a vet abort?

Pet's info: Dog | Boerboel | Female | unspayed | 11 months and 28 days old | 120 lbs

Female dog had puppies 2.5 weeks ago, she abandoned them just put her outside with my male and he tied to her. She just had pups is there any way she could've went into heat again and if so can vet abort?

Typically dogs go into heat once every six months, but if she didn't nurse the puppies, it is possible she has gone into heat again; however, that's not a common occurrence. Given that Zeva has abandoned her puppies, it is indicative that she has poor mothering ability. This could be due to her age (it's never recommended to breed a dog on her first heat), or she may simply not have good mother abilities. Based on this, I would not recommend breeding her again, and I would have her spayed. Spaying her will abort a pregnancy now if she is pregnant, and prevent future litters from occurring. There is a shot that can be done to terminate a pregnancy, but it has to be done right after mating. I would take her into a vet now.

If you don’t plan to breed her in the future then I would recommend spaying her as soon as possible. There are medications that can be given to abort the feti, but this can be very hard on the mama dog, and it is not 100% reliable. This is usually given under hospitalization observation. It's very abnormal, it's either because of another heat cycle which will mean she is not pregnant or because the pregnancy was terminated prematurely. an ultrasound at your vet's can shed some light on this.

My dog is pregnant again. Is a spay abort still possible at 50 days?

Thank you for more information on your dog and the situation. A dog's pregnancy lasts between 58-68 days. Spaying her is still possible, but it's up to the vet to decide if they want to do it or not. As I said, there are vets who do not like to spay pregnant dogs that are far along in their pregnancy. I would give local vet clinics a call to see they would be willing to spay her. There aren't emergency contraceptives like the Plan B in humans but there are medications pets can take to end pregnancy. Not all vets carry them however. My dog mated after heat bleeding stopped. Could she be pregnant?

They only stand for breeding a few days each cycle. For them to actually mate then you do have a 50% chance that the pregnancy took and will be successful. There are no safe medications you can use to terminate from here besides having her spayed which will prevent all future pregnancies Your vet can do an ultrasound around day 18-20 as fetal heart beats will be evident to confirm a pregnancy for you.
