My dog was bred, now she's bleeding again. Is she pregnant or in heat?

It sounds like Sophie is in heat for the first time, which causes the bleeding from the vagina. Due to the fact you have an unneutered male in the house and she has already mated, it is likely she will become pregnant. If you don't want puppies, you can see if the vet will spay her. That will terminate any pregnancy, and keep her from getting pregnant in the future. I'd also recommend having your male neutered.

Most dogs typically go into heat twice a year. The questions to ask yourself are: 1. Has she ever done this before? 2. Does the blood look different? 3. Is she behaving differently? Occasionally, bitches do slow their bleeding and then start up again briefly towards the end, but it is not worth the risk to assume this is the case here. If she actually got preegnant, the she will be having puppies 8-9 weeks, so the spay date is not a good one. You need to schedule an appointment now to check the source of bleeding and to possibly give her a hormone shot so the pregnancy can be terminated. Any bleeding past 4 weeks, or if Cherri is acting sick, is concerning and she should see a Vet for an infected uterus (pyometra). It sounds like Cherri bled for about 21 days? If she has stopped I am hoping she is now out of heat. You can do an ultrasound around 30 days from breeding to check for fetal heart beats or take an X-ray at day 50 to look for mineralized skeletons to confirm if she is pregnant. They only stand for breeding a few days each cycle. For them to actually mate then you do have a 50% chance that the pregnancy took and will be successful. There are no safe medications you can use to terminate from here besides having her spayed which will prevent all future pregnancies Your vet can do an ultrasound around day 18-20 as fetal heart beats will be evident to confirm a pregnancy for you.

This doesn't sound like a miscarriage. The blot clot is probably just normal from the heat cycle. I would not be worried about it unless bleeding persists. As a side note, a puppy at 9 months old is probably fertile; rarely are they "blank". They become sexually mature and able to breed a female at about 6-7 months of age. I suspect that she will get pregnant. If you don't want this mating I suggest you speak to your vet about a mis-mating injection.
