Can a female dog get pregnant and have puppies after a C-section?

Once they have an issue giving birth (dystocia) and they have had a C-section they will usually continue to have problems. If I were your vet I would have spayed her at the time of surgery. Sorry to say this but if you play the odds she will most likely need to have another C-section. Every C-section causes scarring/adhesions of the uterine lining making it difficult for the placenta(s) of the future puppies to attach. If you are serious about breeding her only use a male that is smaller than she is to reduce the size of the puppies - that may help with the birthing process but will not help the attachment of the placentas. There is an increased risk of uterine rupture in patients that have had a cesarean before. The veterinarian that performed the cesarean may be able to give you a better idea Jade's relative risk for this based on the state of her uterus at the time of surgery. Dogs that have needed cesareans before also at a higher risk for complications during labor in the future. I would discuss your concerns as well as the risk of complications with your veterinarian before breeding Jade again.

I am not sure what your question is. If she is getting bigger, developing mammary glands and milk, she may be pregnant. The best way to tell is to get an X-ray done. If she had a c section before, then chances are she may need another one for this litter, so you really need to have an exam done so you know what to look for this time around if she starts to have problems whelping.

This allows the pups to be fully weaned and gives the uterus time to contract back down to its normal size. This makes the surgery easier on her and the surgeon. I hope this information helps!

You can help the puppies try to latch to make sure they are getting milk. If they are not good at latching, you may have to supplement them with puppy formula using a bottle. I do not recommend breeding Bella again if she had a c section, it would be best to have her spayed. Best of luck.

No this isn’t entirely correct. She does however have a greater chance of needing a C-section if the puppies end up being bigger than her birth canal. Which is why it’s best to have her examined by your vet and radiographs taken to look at the size of the fetuses.
