Yes, Uling should be fine to give birth. Hip dysplasia should not affect labor and delivery at all. Hip dysplasia affects the outer portion of the pelvis where the femur (leg bone) attaches to the pelvis. During birth, the puppies pass through the middle of the pelvis, or the pelvic canal. As long as Uling does not have a previous history of having a narrowed pelvis (usually caused from a trauma like being hit by a car) there is no indication to worry. Occasionally, dogs of any breed or size can experience dystocia, which is a term for the difficulty of delivering pups. Unfortunately you cannot be sure if this is going to happen or not until the dog is in labor. Once Uling is in labor, and having active contractions, she should have a pup about every 30 minutes. Hi, thanks for using PetCoach! I recommend starting pregnant mothers on puppy food. Commercial puppy food will provide all the nutrients, vitamins and appropriate calories she needs. I do not recommend raw or home cooked diets as they are deficient in the appropriate nutrients unless balanced by a nutritionist. Well that is quite simple actually. Pregnant dogs only require puppy food which is higher in calories and provides exactly what she needs to maintain a good milk supply and muscle mass during her last trimester. You should start about halfway through her pregnancy and continue this food daily until she has completely weaned her puppies (at 3-4 weeks of age). You don't really need a daily food chart, just feed her the normal amount of food that you would feed her on a regular basis an she should be just fine. It is also a good idea to get her examined around day 45 by a veterinarian to find out how many pups she is having (via x-ray) and also for a general health exam to make sure mama is in good medical condition for her upcoming labor. Puppies can be seen on ultrasound around 28 days pregnant and on X-ray around 50 days. An ultrasound depends on your area. A full abdominal ultrasound in my area (east coast) is around $400 but may be cheaper if just checking for puppies. You would have to call around. Or you can wait until day 50 (from her being let outside) and have your Vet take an X-ray, which is probably only $100. Another option if you do not want puppies, is to have spayed immediately. Thank you for using PetCoach. If concerned about her weight I would recommend a vet visit. Pregnant dogs are more susceptible to parasites so a fecal check may need to be done. Also a pregnant bitch should be eating a high quality puppy food. If she is on regular dog food she is not getting the appropriate calories or nutrients.
