My 9-month Pyrenees mated. Is she too young for a healthy delivery?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Great Pyrenees | Female | unspayed | 9 months and 6 days old | 65 lbs

Concerned mom here..my 9 month old Pyrenees just stuck w/our neighbors 8yo Pyrenees (older male & not related) we didn't know she was in early heat. They are both full-blooded & very healthy dogs (mine is 70#-male is about 100# ...should I be concerned w/delivery/pup sz or developmental probs since shes so young or just monitor her for any changes/ dc/odor/etc or should I spay/abort? Tks in advance!

It is recommended to wait until at least the dog's second heat to mate them, but dogs in their first heat can give birth safely. If you don't want puppies and don't want to have to deal with a dog in heat in the future, then I would have Sheba spayed as soon as possible.
