My dog poops small amounts twice daily. Is this a partial obstruction?

It's great she is pooping, even if it's small amounts, plus she is her normal self. I'd be concerned if she had diarrhea, wasn't pooping at all, had blood in her feces, wasn't eating, and/or was very lethargic. I would continue to monitor her to be safe. Best of luck.

Hello. I honestly would not rush her into an emergency clinic based on one episode of vomiting. Eating well & having normal & regular bowel movements are definitely a sign of a healthy GI tract. A blockage would make her very sick. If she continues to vomit, quits eating, develops any diarrhea, then see your veterinarian, but there is no way 1/6 of a paper towel, even in a small dog, would cause a blockage. Given that Snowball has eaten twice since and isn't vomiting, I would monitor her for signs an obstruction to be safe. It can take a couple of days for signs to be seen which include vomiting, anorexia, diarrhea, not pooping, and severe lethargy. If you see any of those signs, take her into a vet right away. Otherwise if you don't see any of those signs, she will be just fine. Best of luck!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! As long as Koda is eating, acting normal and not vomiting I would keep watching him. Walk him so you can monitor his stool out put and you can confirm that the piece of jean material passed in the stool. If he stops eating or vomits then he should be seen by your Vet for an exam and a belly X-ray to see if the fabric is causing an obstruction. I wish Koda the best!

Hello and thank you for reaching out to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I would not be too concerned that she has not defecated yet today. The diarrhea may be due to stress colitis, or inflammation of the colon secondary to the stress of boarding. This should resolve on its own with a bland diet as you are feeding her. You can also try adding in 2 teaspoons of metamucil fiber powder to her meals twice daily to help bulk up her stool. She may not be defecating yet because her stools forming up and not coming out as quickly. I would monitor for signs of vomiting that could indicate that the watch band that she ate is causing a blockage of her intestines. This is a surgical emergency. It is possible she will pass the watch band by herself in her feces, so I recommend monitoring her feces over the next few days for passage of the band. I hope this is helpful!

If you recently changed foods to Taste if the Wild it’s possible that the food is to blame. An intestinal blockage usually causes vomiting and no stool passing. Occasionally a growth in the colon or rectum can cause stool to appear smaller and flattened or ribbon like but you would also probably see Kip straining to defecate. I would recommend seeing your for a physical exam as the next step to see what they think.

Hello and thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. The symptoms of gastrointestinal blockage include vomiting, lack of appetite, abdominal pain, no bowel movement. If Freya has been eating her food and passing stools, gut blockage is very unlikely. I suspect she may have gastrointestinal infection or food indiscretion that are responsible for the clinical symptoms. Please, take Freya to your local vets for an appointment to make sure there is nothing serious going and to get treatment for her. It probably will be a course of antibiotics or medication to regulate bowel movements.
