Why does my dog poop in her crate, lie in it, and eat her own poop?

They make a product called Forbid that you can add to his food that stops him from this behavior. Since he only does it in the kennel he might be bored. It sounds like Eli isn't fully potty trained yet. I recommend using the basics. 1) have a set daily schedule. As soon as you wake up take her out, as soon as she's done eating, as soon as she's done playing, and before she goes to bed. 2) meal feeding- this helps determine when she needs to potty. What goes in will push the stool out usually within 15-30 minutes. 3) Use a lot of praise when Eli goes potty outside. Lastly, I recommend making the space within her crate smaller, either by buying a smaller crate or blocking off the back end so she only has enough space to stand up and turn around. Fasting her is an option, but that may lead to carsickness and vomiting. She may be defecating in the carrier due to stress. Try to acclimate her to the crate and travel by taking her on frequent trips. Gradually increase the length of travel as she acclimates. Pheromone products such as Feliway spray may decrease any travel related anxiety.

If crate training was going perfectly fine, and then all of the sudden everything changed, my suspicion would be one of two things: an underlying health problem is the cause or some sort of environmental change. Sometimes, removing blankets and beds from the crate deters this behaviors as they do not want to lay next to their pee and poop. Overall, I think making sure some underlying health issue isn't the problem would be your first and safest course of action.

I recommend first to have Kiki examined by the veterinarian to have her stool checked for bacterial over growth or parasites. If she is experiencing inflammation in her gut, this could speed up the GI transit time meaning she will need to go to the bathroom. If no medical cause can be found, I recommend to feed the brand Royal Canin because it tends to be a low residue diet (as long as it is not the 'diet' formula) and pets who eat this diet tend to produce less stool. I would also switch her to twice a daily feeding (6pm latest) and make sure she has an evening bowel movement before bed. This will help to not make her have a BM in the middle of the night. Branches can cause trauma to the GI tract, and some types of mulch can be toxic to dogs if they contain cocoa beans. Puppies may eat this stuff due to intestinal worms, which would also cause her to poop in her crate. I would make sure Daisy is up to date on her deworming treatments, giving her one if she is not. I recommend Panacur, which is a three day course of treatment. She will need another course of treatment two weeks after the first to kill all the worms, and then she should be dewormed every three months. Pick up any branches outside, and keep her away from the mulch to keep her from eating it.
