Why is my dog pooping without knowing, while walking or sleeping?

Other times, the pet has severe arthritis and it is painful to assume the position for defecation. This leads the pet to either avoid defecating outside or not going the full amount. I am assuming that your Boston Terrier has a corkscrew tail. This is a spinal abnormality that can go hand in hand with nerve malfunction of the nerves that control the anal sphincter. There is a possibility that when Valki is completely relaxed or walking she cannot hold in the poop all the time. Anal sac problems can also cause this, and a few other conditions. I suggest a visit to your vet to determine the cause of the fecal incontinence and possibly help the situation with some medication to strengthen the sphincter.

If this is a new behavior I would recommend bringing Tuck along with a stool sample into your vet. This can help rule out some more common issues such as parasites that could be causing GI upset and accidents. Your vet can also examine Tuck for issues such as arthritis that may be making it harder or difficult for Tuck to go potty thus leading to the accidents, or any other health issues that may be affecting his ability to hold it.

This does sound odd, but I'm not sure that anything is medically wrong. Sometimes dogs with neurologic disease such as seizure disorders, or those who have ingested neurologic toxins will urinate and defecate, but they are typically also disoriented. Urinary and fecal incontinence can occur, and diarrhea or a urinary tract infection could cause a dog to have an accident in the house, but if this were a problem I would expect the behavior to continue. I would recommend keeping an eye on Kova and seeing your veterinarian if her urination and defecation continues to seem abnormal.
