Dog pooped undigested raw chicken bone and organs. Is this normal?

I cannot imagine that a whole kibble went through her gastrointestinal tract without being digested. Please, keep an eye on her stools and if you see more of potentially undigested food, Chloe may need a blood test to check her pancreas function.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Eli! The fresh bone may be causing an upset tummy or even a blockage if a large piece was broken off. Also raw meat and bone can contain bacteria that can cause vomiting or diarrhea (like food poisoning). I would resume feeding the mutton and bone as previous, cooked. In the mean time stop the fresh mutton and feed her a bland diet of rice with boiled chicken or hamburger as small frequent meal for 3-5 days. Then resume her old diet. If she refuses to eat or continues to vomit then she should be seen by your Vet. Have a great day!

I agree with you, it does appear to be bone fragments. You are extremely lucky that are passing through and have not become stuck or perforated the intestinal wall. It can take a lot of time for them to pass through - they are heavy and the body has been trying to digest them. I suggest you feed him a lot of fiber for the next few days and if he starts to act ill in any way you need to have him to your vet for an exam. Sources of fiber: canned pumpkin (pure pumpkin, not pie filling), and slices of bread work best.

If there is some diarrhea but Indy is still eating and playing and active, im still not terribly concerned. But if vomiting starts or you’re seeing lethargy or loss of appetite, it’s time to head in to the vet as soon as possible. Hope this helps and best of luck to you and Indy!

Hello, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I'm sorry that Ollies is having this problem. Ingesting bones is a very serious issue.... It is likely that the bones are scraping the lining of the large colon which is why you are seeing drops of blood. I don't think that performing an enema would assist in removing any of the bones. There may have been an impaction of stool that they cleared but I highly doubt any bones actually came out. Bones either have to be surgically removed or passed out through regular defecation. Were any x-rays taken to see where the bones were in the GI tract and how many? If not, I suggest you have that done so you know if you have to be worried about any bone remnants or not. This can be extremely serious as any sharp points on the bones could puncture the intestinal lining causing serious peritonitis and possibly death. If he is otherwise acting normally, don't be overly concerned about the blood drops. If he is eating OK I would feed him a couple slices of bread every 8-12 hours to help coat any bone fragments and help push them out. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

Hello again. As I said earlier, the bone was digested/dissolved. A single piece of cooked bone would have no problems being digested & passing normally through the GI tract. If he has been symptom free for a day, he will continue to be symptom free. If you like, you can continue the pumpkin for another day, but this is not absolutely necessary. He will be fine. Hello. Other than the possibility of either dog vomiting up the bones in the middle of the night, they probably will be fine. Bones, while not recommended to be fed, will be digested. If this was a large carcass, like from a deer or cow, a dog can consume enough bone to either cause a blockage of severe constipation. But since this was a much smaller critter, I see no problems. Disease/parasite problems are nil, but may be a very small possibility. If your dogs are on a broad spectrum heartworm preventative, they are covered for parasites, otherwise a good wormer would not hurt. Watch for any signs of abdominal discomfort, prolonged diarrhea, inappetence or vomiting that lasts longer for a day or so, but if there are no issues, the bones will be gone in the next 12-18 hours.
