Why is my dog's poop solid then pudding-like but he acts normal?

I would recommend switching to a different brand / formula of food and also consider adding in a probiotic such as Purina Fortiflora. If it does not get better and becomes diarrhea entirely, then things like colitis for example would have to be considered. For this reason, I recommend that you monitor him for now. Based on your description, Wade may have a condition called colitis. This is an inflammation in the large intestine most often caused by a change in diet, eating something they are not used to or a stressful event. It can be secondary to many other things. It often results in diarrhea/loose stools and straining to defecate. If he's acting normal otherwise, you can start by withholding food for 12-24 hours, then introducing a bland diet of plain boiled chicken and white rice. You can also add some canned pumpkin puree as the fiber can help to firm up the stools. As long as the stools normalize, you can then start mixing in his regular dog food. If the diarrhea continues despite these things, I would recommend taking him to a veterinarian for an exam. They will most likely recommend a fecal exam to look for parasites and sometimes when colitis doesn't resolve on it's own, they are treated with an antibiotic.

This could be from intestinal parasites or dietary related. I would bring a fecal sample in to a veterinarian and have them check for intestinal parasites so that the most appropriate treatment can be given. If the stool is negative for parasites then I would begin a bland diet of chicken and rice until the stool returns to normal and then transition back over a 7 day period to a different dog food such as science diet or royal canin. I'm sorry to hear that Marble is having soft stool. If parasites have been ruled out, then I would suggest a diet change. A low fat and highly digestible formula with a probiotic may improve his stool quality. If that does not help, then he will likely need further blood work or an abdominal ultrasound. Hi, I would not worry if Pogi is well in himself apart from this runny poo. As you say, sometimes it can vary quite a bit according to what they have eaten or for other factors, perhaps feeling a bit under the weather etc. Keep an eye on his next poo. If he does more of these feaces, I would recommend to have him checked over and at least have a feacal test done. Try to feed him his usual diet and keep an eye on his appetite. If his next toilet looks the same you could try to offer him a bland, easy to digest diet such as chicken and rice, fish and rice or Hill’s I/D. Hope he does not give you any more worries !

Mucus could be a sign of colitis or parasites but it may also be normal for Tucker. I think it would be best to have his stool examined in person and tested to be sure it is nothing to be concerned about.
