My dog's poop has mucus. What does it mean? Is it worms or parasites?

There is always some mucus in stool. It aids in defecation. An increased amount can be due to some inflammation in the intestine. If she had intestinal parasites and was recently treated, this could be the cause. If she is behaving normally, you can monitor her at home. Consider a bland diet in small, frequent amounts until the stool is normal then transition slowly to her regular diet. Symptoms that should be addressed by your veterinarian include lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite or abdominal pain.

That looks like mucus rather than worms. It is not normal and is caused by irritation in the colon for some reason. I'd recommend feeding each dog a bit of glitter or crayon shards with their normal food (easiest with canned food, or their kibble moistened with water) and note which color you give you which pup, and see who ends up producing the abnormal stool sample, so you can take them to the vet. This doesn't have the typical appearance of a worm, which are normally whitish in color and thin or the size of a grain of rice. It is possible this is mucus in the stool, which can look gelatinous, or something your dog ate. Tapeworms are not transmitted directly from one dog to another, and require an intermediate host depending on the type of tapeworm, such as mice or fleas.

The number one reason for puppies to have diarrhea with mucus around it is intestinal parasites (worms). It is best to take her to the vet for an exam so they can run a fecal test and then treat her accordingly.

This is very concerning as it appears to contain blood, mucus and possibly bowel lining. I recommend an oral worm medication, a specialist intestinal or hydrolyzed diet for 6 weeks and a probiotic/fiber supplement such as fortiflora to rebalance the bowel and rule out any parasitic causes. A full health check, blood tests and possibly ultrasound/xray if not responding or any weight loss, vomiting or weakness is noted
