My dog has new pink spots and skin depigmentation. Should I worry?

Portabella’s lesion is quite prominent. It’s possible that it could be an allergic reaction from contacting something, or a benign or malignant growth. Given her young age, a benign mass called a histiocytoma is quite possible. The good news is that these lesions resolve on their own in a few months without treatment. However, the only way to differentiate between different types of skin lesions is some diagnostic testing. There’s certainly no reason to panic or worry yourself, but I do think it would be best to have Portabella examined by your vet. Your vet may want to take some cells from this lesion for microscopic evaluation. I hope that everything goes well!

These look like little warts, that could be harmless. However I am a little worried that they have pigment around them and are not pink as they probably should be, I suggest you take Peluchin to a veterinarian and have the masses examined hands-on. Your vet may want to do a little biopsy taking one of those growths out and sending it in to determine whether they are benign or not. So, best schedule an appointment with your vet.

However, continue to monitor them closely because sometimes skin cancer such as melanoma can start like that. If these ever become raised or seem to bother him or appear to be spreading, have him evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Anytime a new mass is noticed, I always recommend having it evaluated to see what it is and if anything needs to be done about it. Unfortunately, we often can't tell anything about a mass by just looking at it. Your vet can perform a simple test called a fine needle aspirate where they use a small needle to collect some cells from the mass, then look at them under the microscope. They may even need to send the cells to the lab for a pathologist to examine them, so we know what the mass is. If it is benign, you might not need to do anything about the mass at all, but if they see cells that worry them, they might recommend removing the mass. Since Qbert has scratched the mass, I think it is certainly worth having your veterinarian examine it again and evaluate a sample to make sure that it is benign. Good luck! I hope that was helpful. Based on your picture these look like adenomas which are a benign type of skin mass. They can secrete material that is dark, but they can also occasionally become infected. Since Evie has had some behavior changes as well it would be a good idea to have your veterinarian examine the masses and confirm the diagnosis. Adenomas are benign and generally don't need to be removed unless they are infected or bothering the dog.

I'm not sure from your picture if you're talking about the blackish mass at the front of Buddy's chest, or if he has masses under his skin on his sides. Either way the answer is the same. If the masses are coming back in the same place, then he's either very unlikely or there is local recurrence of the mass. Local recurrence and have been with cancerous growths and also with some more benign types of growths. The appropriate treatment depends on the type of mass that it is. I would recommend asking your veterinarian if he had cytology or histopathology done on the mass for testing (because those would give very different information) and exactly what the growth was. Then you can talk to your veterinarian about the significance of regrowth, or repost a question here if you would like. Another possibility is that he's getting new masses, in similar but not identical places, and it's unrelated to his old masses. For this I would recommend cytology (using a needle to poke the mass while Buddy is awake) at your veterinary office and talking to them about whether removal is needed or not.
