My dog has pink, round bumps on his skin. Could it be cancer?

Hi there! The thing that comes to mind when you describe Bear's skin condition are sebaceous cysts-a common but unbothersome condition many of our pets face. They may spontaneously resolve or "pop" and dry up, but usually more will form. Small mast cell tumors, plasmacytomas, etc can also present similarly but are less common. I hope this helps! Hello, my name is Dr. Shines and I am happy to help. Dogs can get all kinds of skin masses as well as things like pimples and ingrown hairs. Most of these lesions will be benign but a few will be cancerous. Unfortunately, you can't always tell from looks alone. If the bump doesn't seem to hurt or bother Bentley, you might try applying a warm (not hot) compress every couple hours for 10 minutes. If this is an ingrown hair or pimple, this might help it to come to a head. If it seems to bother him, have him examined. If the bump is still there in 2 weeks, I'd go ahead and have Bentley examined. There's one type of skin cancer called a Mast Cell Tumor and they commonly look red/pink, hairless and raised. If the doctor is concerned, they'll test it. I hope this helps and please feel free to reach out with any additional questions.

Based on your picture these look like adenomas which are a benign type of skin mass. They can secrete material that is dark, but they can also occasionally become infected. Since Evie has had some behavior changes as well it would be a good idea to have your veterinarian examine the masses and confirm the diagnosis. Adenomas are benign and generally don't need to be removed unless they are infected or bothering the dog.

I agree that the first picture appears to be a skin tag and the second picture looks like it could be a cyst or perhaps a Sebaceous adenoma. I am not too concerned about these masses, but obviously an examination is far better than an evaluation of a picture. These could be harmless skin growths like adenoma/warts. They could also be cysts(again usually not harmful) as well as infected glands. Sometimes monitoring them and watching for any change in their color, size, or any discharge from them is ok. If they have any of those changes then Millie would need to be seen by a veterinarian. I would not recommend applying any topical ointment to them at this time.

You may find more on Minty as he ages. The skin is fragile so if he scratches them they may bleed, but again, nothing to worry about. Kisses to Minty!

I would guess that these are sebaceous adenomas or benign skin growths that are common in older dogs. There are some other skin tumors that could look similar however and it would be best to have your veterinarian examine Linguine in person to be 100% sure.
