My senior dog has pink skin bumps that are shrinking. Are they normal?

Those appear to be sebaceous adenomas. These are common, wary like growths, that occur as dogs age. They are typically not cancerous but can cause a problem if they get scratched or cut. If there are several it may be best to consult with your vet about removal

Hello, my name is Dr. Shines and I am happy to help. Dogs can get all kinds of skin masses as well as things like pimples and ingrown hairs. Most of these lesions will be benign but a few will be cancerous. Unfortunately, you can't always tell from looks alone. If the bump doesn't seem to hurt or bother Bentley, you might try applying a warm (not hot) compress every couple hours for 10 minutes. If this is an ingrown hair or pimple, this might help it to come to a head. If it seems to bother him, have him examined. If the bump is still there in 2 weeks, I'd go ahead and have Bentley examined. There's one type of skin cancer called a Mast Cell Tumor and they commonly look red/pink, hairless and raised. It is hard to tell without seeing it in person, but pimple like bumps often indicate an infection like a pyoderma. Sometimes medicated shampoo can be enough to get rid of the bumps, but other times they need oral antibiotics. I would recommend making sure he is on a good flea prevention and speaking with your vet about the possibility of a skin infection. I hope this helps!

In the later case, fluid or even a chunky material can sometimes be expressed from the bump. These are the most common scenarios given your picture. Skin cancer is possible in dogs, but less likely. Hi there. Bumps like the one on Bear could be a few different things. Sometimes there can be a thorn or something else stuck beneath the skin causing the bump. It could also be a skin growth, examples of these are things like epitheliomas, mast cell tumors and lipomas. Because it's red and is causing him some irritation, I would recommend having your veterinarian check the bump. They may suggest doing a fine needle aspirate of the bump, which collects cells from within the bump to help diagnose what it is. It's not an emergency, but I would have it checked when you can. Hi. These appear to be sebaceous cysts. It's an over production of sebaceous material and it forms a.skin tag like mass tha look.cauliflower like that and have sebaceous, zit like material. Very common in this type of breed and coat and age. They are benign. As far as cheering him up, that's hard at this age. He may just want to lay around, he may not feel well, he may need more attention, etc. I would get a full blood panel to make sure no illnesses are going on. Your veterinarian can perform this. As far as food, I would not recommend cooking the food. Doing that can cause an unbalanced diet and cause issues with bones, vitamins, minerals. Etc. Stick with a good brand of dog food....science diet, iams, royal canine, purina.
