My dog has a pink, hard lump on her belly with a scab. Is it cancer?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 3 years and 11 months old | 40 lbs

Piglet, 3.5yo, pugxlab, i noticed last week that she had a pink lump on her belly, it is hard and not attatched to her ribs or anything, i haven’t been home a lot since then but yesterday i notice it had gotten a scab on it and has gone a weird colour. Do you think it’s benign or should i go get tests? the shape or size hasn’t increased, i think it’s decreased in size very slightly

Hopefully it's nothing but any red, raised mass is concerning for a skin cancer called Mast Cell Tumor. Many other lesions though can look this way but I think it's always best to play it safe and have it tested. Aspirations of a mass are generally quick and easy and most pets tolerate them well. That pink mass could be something completely benign or it could be a cancerous tumor called a Mast Cell Tumor. Just like with humans, you often can’t tell by looking. The problem with Mast Cell Tumors is that they can look like anything. I recommend to have Bella visit her veterinarian and have the mass aspirated. This will collect a small sample of cells and this will tell you what it is and if further action is needed. Even benign tumors can become inflamed, especially if Bella is chewing in it. It’s always better to be safe than sorry. Hopefully it’s nothing serious!

I would recommend going to your veterinarian and having them perform an aspirate of the growth. Without an aspirate or biopsy you can't say what this growth is. I would be concerned about mast cell tumors in Gracie if she had two others removed from her last year. My dog has a skin-colored nipple-like lump. Is it a mast cell tumor?

It doesn't look like a MCT, but they can take on different appearances. It maybe a benign growth or skin tag. The only way to find out would be to have Buddy examined by your veterinarian. A fine needle aspirate can be done in the clinic to collect samples for pathology. This may provide a diagnosis. In the meantime, monitor it for rapid change or growth. Consider having it removed if it causes pain, impedes motion or changes rapidly.

My dog has a painful lump on her stomach near a nipple. What is it?

Hi. This is a very big mass. If it is firm and painful, this is concerning in an unspayed, older pet is cancer unfortunately. Besides a cancer, other possibilities include infection, cyst, lipoma, a benign mammary tumor, hernia, etc. She should be fully checked out and have the mass sampled to get an answer. The sooner the better in this case.

My dog has a red bump on her chest. Is it serious? What is it?

Hello and thank you for your question. I recommend to have your pup examined by the veterinarian. Skin masses can be many things but red/pink raised masses are especially concerning for a skin cancer called a Mast Cell tumor. This cancer can spread to the internal organs. Your veterinarian will need to collect a sample of cell to examine under the microscope to determine what this is and if further treatment is needed. Have this checked out soon. Fingers crossed this is not a MCT and is something benign instead but you can't tell by looks. I hope this helps.

My dog has a pink fatty lump on his belly near his nipple. What is it?

Hi. Unfortunately it is impossible to tell without an examination and testing of the lump. But, it appears to me to be what's called a histiocytoma. These are benign growths that appear in young pets usually under the age of 4 and usually around the age of 2. They are red, raised, sometimes dry and ulcerated looking. We are benign growths that usually go away on their own within a few months. I would recommend though having it double checked by your veterinarian. Good luck.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This looks like a mammary tumor. This could be a benign or malignant growth. This is often differentiated by a test called a fine needle aspirate (FNA) which is a pain free, inexpensive and easy procedure which in most cases will help reach a diagnosis. Sometimes a biopsy is needed for a definitive diagnosis. I recommend that you have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. I am really hoping for something benign. Is my dog's purple, fleshy stomach growth that deflated cancerous?

This may be an abscess, a cyst or a tumor. You should have it examined by your veterinarian, as it is not possible to distinguish these by just looking at a photo. An abscess can usually be treated with antibiotics and/or be lanced, and a cyst can be evacuated. To identify a tumor, your vet may want to do a fine needle aspirate (he takes some material from the bump with a needle and then looks at it under the microscope) to determine whether the mass is concerning.
