My dog has a pink fatty lump on his belly near his nipple. What is it?

This is often differentiated by a test called a fine needle aspirate (FNA) which is a pain free, inexpensive and easy procedure which in most cases will help reach a diagnosis. Sometimes a biopsy is needed for a definitive diagnosis. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. I am really hoping for something benign. Young dogs get benign tumors called histiocytomas. These usually grow quickly, but the immune system will typically resolve the problem within a month or so. However, if the lump is still there in a month or so then I would be a good idea to have him evaluated by your veterinarian. Best of luck and thank you for using Pet Coach.

I can see that Sir Nicholas has a small, raised, dark lesion by his nipple. This can be a mass under the skin, which may be malignant (likely to spread) or benign (unlikely to spread). I recommend having this area looked at by a vet. They will be able to either remove the mass completely and determine exactly what it is, or take smaller samples using a needle. I'm glad to hear that Willow's lump has not dramatically changed in size and that she is otherwise feeling okay. Lumps and bumps can be benign or malignant masses, granulomas, abscessed/infected lesions, among many other conditions. Even though this lump has not changed, I still recommend taking Willow to her vet for further evaluation. The vet will be able to performa fine needle aspirate, which will use a needle to draw a few cells from the lump so that the cells can be examined microscopically. This test will provide a lot of useful information as to whether the lump can be monitored at home for changes or if surgical removal is the best course of action. Hello. This could just be a cyst or small tumor such as a histiocytoma. At this point, it does not look worrisome, so just monitor for any changes in size &/or shape. This looks like a tumor. You need to make an appointment with your veterinarian to have this mass examined and preferably have a Fine Needle Aspirate done to send to a laboratory or have it removed right away if possible, in case it is a malignant growth. The FNA will help with diagnosing whether this is malignant or benign.
