Dog's penrose drain fell out. Is it urgent or can I wait until morning?

It looks like a penrose drain was placed these drains usually stay in 3-5 days. It is normal to see a blood discharge or seriosangenous fluid like it see in the picture. I would monitor the wound for drainage. It should be decreasing each day. If at anytime the patient is lethargic or not eating/drinking I would take him back to the vet to have it checked.

Yes, this sounds normal. If she has a drain in place, you don't want to cover this with a bandage or else it won't drain properly. Your veterinarian should give instructions about how to care for the drain at home for the next few days - usually just keeping the openings clean, and keeping an e-collar (plastic cone) on her to make sure she doesn't chew it out.

I’m not sure what type of surgery was done, or what types of tubes are left. This makes it hard to answer as well as I would like. However, anytime my clients have ANY concern about a healing surgical patient, then I want to see them and evaluated the incision. If your doctor says it fine then great! The tube is a drainage and seems well placed. If there is no fluid coming out from the wound the tube can be removed in the next 48hours. The wound seems, externally, healing quite well so if Luna is ok in herself (eating well, no lethargy, no vomiting or diarrhoea and no excessive discomfort), everything seems going well postoperatively. The outcome will be good, and I do not think you need to seek advice from another vet. I would discuss Penrose drainage removal with your vet and continue with medications prescribed (antibiotics are needed). Differentials include skin cysts, infections, benign or more sinister type of tumors. Yes, this drainage could be due to excessive activity which in turn it can cause a seroma which is essentially an accumulation of fluid at the incision site which can result in drainage. Another possibility is an infection. Even though his discharge does not have a smell to it, it can still be due to an infection. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian when possible (for example next Tuesday when they open again). The reason is that that region is very prone to infections as it is so close to the anus and if an infection is present, you want to treat it appropriately. In the meantime, keep the area clean and keep him as quiet as possible to prevent any further issues. If the incision forms any scabs, avoid picking the scabs. Good luck! Some drainage after drain removal is often expected as the volume is increasing I recommend you get her rechecked at your vets office in the morning, it may be necessary to replace the drain until the wound has further healed. It is positive that the fluid is not foul smelling and pinkish-brown indicates no current, active bleeding so unless anything changes waiting for regular office hours would be appropriate

Drain tubes will stay in until the wound actually stops draining. Usually between 3-5 days. If the drain is pulled too soon the holes will close and the wound will fill up with the fluid that now cannot drain.
